The breakfast was wonderful! There was a selection of fruit, overnight oats, muesli with different things to add (nuts etc) and a wide selection of delicious jams, plus eggs cooked to order. The breakfast room is also a shared sitting area with views towards the ocean one way, and the Pico volcano the other. The room was large and bright, and very comfortable.

The entire experience from the first to the last minute was absolutely incredible. The house is beautiful and with a super cosy decor. Not to mention the huge garden that brings us peace and takes us into the middle of nature (you can even relax in a hammock!!). During our stay, we had a 30th anniversary and the accommodation offered us a (huge) cake and sparkling wine. All these treats make a difference and raise our expectations compared to other places.
Carolina (Reservation Manager) is lovely, super available and made us "feel at home"
This eco-friendly resort offers modern and spacious accommodation with a private terrace and views of the Atlantic ocean.

The position is absolutely amazing, just in front of the ocean, looking towards Faial.

I had not been back to Pico Island since 1998 during the year of the earthquake in the Azores. Since that time the Azores has certainly become quite different but in a positive way. This is a small quaint village that offers you all of the modern comforts to explore the beauty that is The Azores. Despite the modern amenities it still keeps it's old world charm. Lest we forget, the wine and the food. Magnificent!

Good place to stay when traveling to Pico Island - relatively close to the airport, has all the necessary facilities (taxi, banks, supermarkets, restaurants), and there are also year-round ferries to go to neighboring islands from there.

Central to everything that is required.
Central to everything that is required. We rented a car and drove by the whole island. (110 km.). We stopped in a few villages for a coffee, or beer, or just to drive through. Madalena is definitely our favorite.

Madalena is a nice small town suitable to serve as a "base" for exploring Pico and Faial islands. The ferry port is in the city so it is easy to commute and includes several rental cars companies as well as tour guides for climbing mount Pico.
The nearby natural pools has served us to refresh after a day long trail.
We recommend checking out the local wine museum where you can find the oldest dragon tree as well as trekking in the wine trail that starts just near Madalena.
In the town we enjoyed eating at the Mercado Bio restaurant that serves a nice variety of dishes suitable for all taste and preferences.

Small town with a few restaurants and church.
Small town with a few restaurants and church. There are some nice fish restaurants. Wine museum is worth a visit.
There are a few whale watching, snorkelling, and diving companies, also companies that can arrange land tours and trekking. It is close to the Pico mountain. The problem I had was, it was off season and the tour companies did not seem very interested to arrange activities for tourists. You really have to make an effort yourself to find and arrange any activity. My initial intention was to do some scuba diving with sharks or snorkelling with dolphins. But due to weather conditions (however I have to say that on at least 3 days I was there the weather was very calm, but perhaps there was a bit of surge) and lack of engagement of tour operators it was not possible. I only was able to go on a single whale watching trip (where we did see a couple of whales).
The best part of my holiday was when I rented a car and drove around the island myself. The island (Pico) is very lush and green, very scenic.

This must have been quite the hotel in its day but is quite dated now. Some of the staff were helpful while some were not helpful at all. We were here in the off season so maybe that had to do with it.
The perfect location in the heart of Madalena. Easy walk to restaurants, grocery, etc. Parking easy to find near by (April). Our room was the top floor apartment, which was more spacious than anticipated. The kitchen was well supplied and the couch plus sitting area allowed for space to relax. Our host was very welcoming and provided good recommendations for our time on the island. Wifi worked well for video calls. We would stay again!
My stay was a pleasure from a beginning to end. Federica and her team do their very best to make you feel like you are at home. The accommodation is very spacious and although in nature it is very close to Madalena city (15 min walk). But what makes this a great stay is the offering of the staff - yoga classes and Hugo's trekking tour are a must-do! Would come back again, and hopefully for longer.
Perfect spot zu explore the island. Between Madalena and Lajes, the natural pool nearby is really nice and the view from the terrasse extraordinary with the pico at the back. We could watch dolphins from the terrasse.
The father of the host who was taking care of the house was really nice and helpful.
There was Coffee, tea, water and milk waiting for us.
Everything you need is in the house! Even a wash machine.
Patricia the owner is very nice, kind and helpful. the bed sleeps perfect! The room is perfectly styled and has a perfect shower. private secluded and safe parking in the back. You can walk to all the best restaurants in Madalena. I would recommend this place for everybody if you stay in Madalena.
The location was fantastic, right in the middle of Madalena, right in front of the harbour where you can ride a boat to Faial Island, also 5 minute away from a large supermarket with everything you need to make your stay more pleasent.
Amazing view from the terrace, you can enjoy a beautiful view of Faial island.
Great location by the ocean in Madalena. Lovely terrace set into vineyards. Spectacular view of Faial and fun to see ferries go back and forth. Loved having bathtub and house had everything we needed for wonderful stay. Bed was King+ and very comfortable. Very clean and would happily have stayed longer.
The host allowed us to check in early and had prepared a welcome basket of bread, cheese, fruit and coffee for us. The apartment was clean and is located just outside of Madalena town centre - about a 15 minute walk. All kitchen appliances worked well and the washing machine was a bonus.
Directly in front of the main church of Madalena and on the water. Rooms are comfortable. I split a regular sized hotel room with two double beds and a private bath with another solo traveler from Italy.
The hotel was beautiful and in a great location. The views were amazing. The breakfast was excellent, and I liked that we could eat outside on the deck. The staff were friendly and helpful.
The view of the city from the balcony was amazing. The breakfast was classic as in most European hotels. I would easily add the local bread from the island of Pico, which is excellent.
Proximity to the airport, to the ferry, to Madalena and to the supermarket.
Very friendly and helpful hosts, both before the travel and during the stay.
