Hittori-San is a very kind landlord and took his time to talk about the rich history of this house and the changes his ancestors had to go through during the Meji-Restauration. The apartment is really Japanese with a low table but also modern. We slept in a normal bed and the kids on matrasses on Japanese Tatami mats. The apartment is very close to the Samurai district.

Well stocked kitchen, and 10 mins into the nearby onsen town which has a good grocery store. It was such a nice quiet retreat from our city travels, and the best sleep I got all trip. The host family was so sweet, I was sad we had to leave so soon. Definitely recommend making the trip! We were just 2 people but I'd love to come back with more friends and their kids, it was very well set up for larger families.
