The family run this hotel with a lot of thoughtful care and hospitality. The traditional Japanese meals were authentic and served with fresh Hilda beef and local vegetables. As a hot spring lover, the hot spring were beyond expectation. There are private room and shared room for hot spring, and they all have great view of quiet forest. (It was snowy the day I came, and the experience of bathing hot spring in a snowy forest was superb.) The owners are very friendly and kind!

Stuff was extremely attentive and really kind. Our biggest regret is that we have booked only one night.

Reopened after renovation in 2022, Auberge Hidanomori is situated in quiet hills, a 10-minute shuttle ride from JR Takayama Station. The property offers free WiFi access in rooms and in public areas including the shared TV lounge and the terrace. The food and experience is phenomenal for the price paid. Please take the dinner and a few glasses of wine - the host is exceptional with pairings and the food is unimaginably good. The bath even though shared is also very nice with a full onsen vibe. Everything in the building has very obviously been meticulously thought through.

Offering traditional Japanese-style accommodation with spacious public baths, Yatsusankan Over 6 years old is a 6-minute walk from JR Hidafurukawa Train Station. WiFi is accessible at public areas for free, while the private-use hot spring bath is available at a surcharge. Wonderful staff, offering perfect service, warm hospitality, the manager even took our photo during the 90 minute traditional evening meal, and gave us the print at breakfast. Superb food, in a beautiful Ryokan, with comfortable Tatami area for beds, set in the most picturesque garden on a river bank. If you do only.1 Ryokan on your trip to Japan, choose this one. You can even reserve a private Onsen for an hour for $12 which gives an amazing couples experience.
