Self Catering Accommodation in Drake

Sebastian and Maria were the most amazing hosts. We had to change plans at the last minute due to road closures and cancelled accommodation. After confirming last minute availability at Bajo Bosque, I had a WhatsApp message 5 minutes later from Sebastian re-assuring us he'd be waiting on the beach to transfer us to Bajo Bosque after our boat transfer from Sierpe (we highly recommend this route in to Drake Bay). On the first morning, Sebastian took us into town and pointed out the best shops to buy fruit, veg and store-cupboard supplies. Later in the week when we experienced a power outage, Sebastian was down in a heartbeat with a gas burner so we could make our morning coffee and breakfast. We saw so much wildlife from the balcony of Bajo Bosque, with messages from Sebastian each time he spotted a Sloth in the trees. The Macaws were also a common sight in the trees road-side. We enjoyed the easy 20 minute walk down to the start of the Drake Bay hiking trail (spotted a Tapir on the road at night!). We were travelling with kids, and there was never a complaint about the walking because we always saw so many exciting things long the way. Sebastian also offers transfers at a reasonable cost which are well worth it to explore more of the Drake Bay Hiking trail. Our change in plans meant that we stayed 3 nights longer than originally planned, spending 7 nights in total. This was in hind-sight such a great alteration to our itinerary because our stay at Bajo Bosque was hands-down the best part of our 3 week holiday in Costa Rica. We'd also highly recommend a creek tour with José whose knowledge of frogs is incredible!

We really enjoyed our stay at our bungalow. It felt like we have been in paradise - surrounded by hummingbirds, parrots and monkeys. It was an incredible experience. Carlos made breakfast which was absolutely tasty. In addition you can book dinner, which was also amazing (2 courses for 14$)! Carlos was really helpful. Also with booking a trip to the Corcovado Nationalpark. He found the best tour guide ever for us!

Nice place to stay with rooms with airconditioning, a short walk from the beach and restaurants. The owner Javier is friendly and was able to help us with booking our tours. He was also our tour guide in Corcovado NP on our overnight trip there. This was the highlight of our visit to Costa Rica. Javier is very knowledgeable and we saw tapirs, sloaths, anteater and many other animals. Our drive to Drake Bay was hard without a 4x4. Would not recommend. With 4x4 doable.

A very nice place close to the main beach. We got a cozy room with its own bathroom, not sure how the shared ones look. There is also a nice shared kitchen, which was actually very clean. The staff was nice and helpful. Definitely worth the money.

Great spot, right at the beach. You can hear the waves at night. Ana and Gio are great hosts. They gave us nice advice about things to do. The co-living in the house went very smooth. The bed was very big and comfortabel. We slept downstairs. Ana was so kind to bring some forgotten clothes all the way to San Isidro. Thank you both so much :). Charming, luxury (AC very nice in the humid environment) on a remote deserted wonderful beach. Good cooking facilities ( no shops, so fully stock up before you arrive). Parrots and other animals at your terrace - beautiful. Very hospitable and responsive hosts, who provided great tips, seeking feedback to further enhance and even brought coconuts with straws. Hidden gem. Restaurant at Poor man’s paradise ( great foodt- 15 min walk on the beach. Book tours via Elsa Good Catch. Take the boat to/from Sierpe ( pick up on the beach) - true experience.

Tico’s Gringos was one of the most incredible places we have ever stayed in. The wild life around the location is like nothing we’d ever experienced before - from monkeys in the trees to tucans and parrots, this place was truly in the lush forest. The place was well set up, with fresh water, a big fridge and cooking facilities. It was clean and tidy and the AC at night was ideal. It was quite spacious also and had Netflix and fast internet. You couldn’t really ask for more. The best part of the holiday was actually chatting with Tico and his wife and learning about the animal behaviour around the property - after a lifetime living in Drake, you can tell they are just as excited about every bird or creature as they were as kids. It was so great to share that excitement with them. Tico also knows everyone and can organise any of the trips for you easily, I recommend organising the activities through him as it tends to be cheaper and goes straight to the locals. We would LOVE to visit again.
