Goreme is a fantastic tourist destination and a must see when in Turkey. The pre-paid Booking.com transfer service just never turned up at the airport or even communicated with us, resulting in us having to take a private taxi atr a substantial premium. I would strongly recommend the airport shuttle service. Getting around Goreme is somewhat confusing without internet and digital support. It is a lovely small town next to Goreme (famous for the hot air balloon rides and pointed rock structures) so its a short ride away with none of the hustle and bustle of a touristy town. It has many local restaurants and coffee shops within walking distance, to eat at without breaking the bank. There is a promenade with on the river with jungle gyms and play areas for little kids. Ortahisar is a beautiful little town. It’s quite quiet but a short taxi ride into slightly busier Goreme. I’m glad we stayed in Ortahisar though as it was much more relaxing and quaint. Hisarönü Restaurant was our favourite place to eat - fantastic food, lovely Cappadocian wine and shisha. We even got given a free slice of cake as it was the owners birthday. My review of Goreme is a touristy town where everything is just inflated from the tasteless food to the price gouging and tricky for flying the hot air balloon rides. Our hotel even admitted that companies will cancel a confirmed reservation for a balloon ride so they can find a better reservation for a higher price, even if the weather is good to go. Beautiful and quiet place. Less busy and less expensive than Georme. Locations near Uçhisar castle is very lively but rule is same. closer your stay to main hub costly and busier it gets.
