The food, the people working here, the location and facilities. The room had the comfiest bed, nice coffee, all in the middle of nature with birds and paddy fields. Lovely pool, great breakfast, lunch and dinner. All of the employees were so friendly and attentive. It was only a short drive to Yala for safari. They packed us a nice breakfast for the early start...just remember to hide that breakfast in the jeep cab or the monkeys will take it😁stayed 2 nights, and extra one would've been great!

This is the place that exceeds your expectations! All the reviews that you read is not too good to be true- it’s a real reflection from people that experienced the stay at the Elegant Lake House. From the first step you’re greeted by Randy and his exceptional service. The property is beautiful, surrounded by nature- perfect place to relax and disconnect. We definitely suggest to stay more than one night if you can, because we promise you won’t want to leave. Randy has a lot of knowledge to share about his village and nature and he gladly does it for his guests by showing around. The food that they prepare is delicious! The rooms are very well equipped, super clean and new. So, if you’re reading this review- don’t think any more and book your stay at Elegant Lake House. It’s a true example of hospitality! Where do I even start? The owner was the nicest host we encountered in Sri Lanka. Forget about eating anywhere but at their house. They prepare the most delicious curry - best we had so far. They breakfast was really good and the portions are very large. The host also organized a safari to Yala park with a very experinced ranger. We even saw a Leopard and a tusker. The host proposed that we go to Kataragama with him for the festival. He arranged the best seats at the festival just for us - free of charge. We met some of the nicest people at the festival, they explained all the history during the festival and tried to please all of our expectations. The location of the house is also at the edge of a very beautiful lake. All in all, you will not be disapointed to book your stay here.

Great place! My friend and I stayed in this two room home - he was in the bottom room and I was in the top room so we had the whole place to ourselves! The rooms are huge, both with large outdoor space. Beds are comfortable, bathrooms are modern, and the property is beautiful. The host, Mithila, is super friendly and helpful. She booked us a well-priced safari at Yala and we were lucky enough to see a leopard! She also said she could order us food to eat at the place, but we decided to go out instead.

We had a great experience staying here and exploring Yala. The hotel arranged two safaris for us, and both were excellent. Our guide Sampath and driver Supoon were very knowledgeable, and thanks to their experience, we were able to see leopards on both trips. They knew how to navigate the crowds and where to go for the best wildlife sightings. The hotel itself was lovely. We enjoyed the view of the beach from our cabin, and listening to the waves from the porch was a highlight of our stay. The property’s access to nature was excellent. The nearby lake was a prime spot for wildlife viewing. We saw crocodiles, wild boars, and elephants there. The staff, especially Gayan and Saman, made an effort to connect with us every day, ask how our day was, and point out wildlife around the property. We would recommend this place for anyone visiting Yala and looking for a peaceful stay close to nature.

We stayed in this hotel for 2 days in October 2023. The hotel is located in the Yala Nature Reserve on the ocean. We were pleasantly surprised by the hotel staff. The general manager of Colonel proved to be an amazing person. He gave us a real celebration in honor of our wedding anniversary. It was funny and unforgettable. The hotel itself is not new, but it has everything you need. The rooms are large and colorful. All with ocean views, comfortable enough. Many thanks to the staff of the entire hotel for their hospitality and attention to our people.

What a special place surrounded by nature. The room (family room) was well proportioned and well furnished. The indoor out door bathroom was quite unique - we loved it! Breakfast was a lovely mix of western and Sri Lankan, I loved the breakfast curry 🥘 A lovely swimming pool overlooking the local rice fields was a welcome treat in the heat of the afternoon. A perfect destination for couples and families a like.

Tissamaharama is a fantastic base for anyone looking to explore the natural beauty and rich culture of southern Sri Lanka. It's perfectly located for Yala National Park safaris, offering easy access to incredible wildlife encounters. Beyond the safaris, the town itself has a calm, local vibe with beautiful lakes and ancient temples to discover. You'll find plenty of local restaurants and shops, making it easy to enjoy authentic Sri Lankan experiences. It's a great spot for both adventure and relaxation, and I highly recommend spending some time here!

It is a holy place visited by Buddhists and Hindus alike. Some Muslims also visit a mosque located in the sacred area. Buddhist usually visit the Kiri Vehera area first and then come to the Devale premises. There are circular roads to facilitate that sequence. Otherwise, one can walk to the Devale premises and then proceed to the Kiri Vehera premises. There are lot of boutiques selling various items including offerings for Devale. They are located in the town area. After that one has to cross a small bridge over the Menik River to enter the sacred area. Over the years both sides of the river have been re-organized for a better sequential experience.

This place is amazing.

This place is amazing. We stay with our 3 young kids and the staff were so kind and attentive. All of the small details have been thought of and it’s a wonderful experience in nature. Lovely local Sri Lankan are served for each meal.

A great place to stay and would definitely recommend.

A great place to stay and would definitely recommend. Large comfortable room close to the pool, with restaurant and plenty of cold beer. We were very well looked after and nothing was too much trouble. Anyone looking for a visit to the National Park should consider staying at Tringa and booking the tour with them as they will make sure you have a great experience.

Weerawila, located in a dry zone of Sri Lanka, is ideal for wildlife safaris and nature experiences. This location is especially convenient during the rainy season, as it often stays dry even when the rest of the country is experiencing thunderstorms. We chose it specifically to avoid heavy rains.

We went for leopard safari & it is in zones 5&6. Safari was excellent & saw one leopard & a bear! Hotels generally not near any restaurants so confined to your hotel for dining. Would not want more than one or two nights there.

We returned to the serenity lake to have lunch before heading off. Requested for a village kind of lunch with the local veggies and it was served on a lotus leaf... The most delicious meal it was. We had lunch at Reds and at the Serenity lake .

Kataragama itself is a temple town and that’s pretty much it. Other than that it’s a jumping off point for safari in yala and kumana. One day is more than enough for cultural/religious aspects. The Perahara (pageant) in July is fantastic. Be warned that it may not start till midnight and may need pre booked tickets. Also watch out for pickpockets in crowded areas around this time. The country side and the rural life as well as the wildlife is fantastic and authentic. Quite hot and sunny year round but dec to feb is more comfortable.

It definitely is an experience worth trying.

It definitely is an experience worth trying. The tree house has all the comforts you need but yet kept on the simple side. Don't expect much and you will get a lot. Nice food Bbq and big fire lit for you in the evening to give you a chance to relax and talk about your day activities. It was great to be left alone and the silence of the night. There were times you just felt that we were the only ones there and when you needed something the staff would magically appear

We were extremely satisfied with the hotel and its beautiful surroundings. Everything exceeded our expectations. We took lots of photos & are sharing them with friends. The restaurants,Roof bar,Spa's and the pool side and pool is world class with out doubt! The service was outstanding, and that is something that can really make or break a vacation. Congratulations to the Super Proactive General Manager Mr Krishanta Damunupola and his team members to include Mr Seeman and Miss Sandani(Intern) for being so accommodating at all times with oodles of dedication. We also especially liked the super-comfy room with the balcony, bed linens which were very high quality, and felt so good to slip into each night. Thanks so much for a lovely visit.We'll be singing your praises for a long time. Thanks!
