We had a great stay here. This place is brand new so the rooms are clean,bed is comfy and shower is great for a cheap price relative to what you get. They have a pool also, which is critical as sigiriya is very hot and you need to cool down sometimes. Breakfast had everything you need, The staff was very attentive and friendly. The location is good, not that far from the rocks and has restaurants in a walkable distance Wifi signal was a bit slow

BEST PLACE IN SIGIRIYA!! Bernard, the hotel manager is one of a kind! Super attentive checking your needs helping with everything he can. Simply amazing person who truly makes you feel at home. The entire staff were sweet, professional and polite going out of their way to make sure you have the best stay. The rooms are comfortable and immaculate and the pool is perfect! On a month long trip to Sri Lanka, filled with beautiful places and accommodations - the Cottage holds a special place in my heart. We spent two amazing days here, and later in our trip we decided to go back for 5 more. From the kindness of the staff, the excellent hospitality, the pool that was somehow always the right temperature, the location in nature and all of the life that surrounds it - we had a perfect stay. The gentleman that cares for the plants, pool and grounds works all day making sure the place looks great and the pool is always clean. The chef makes great food, and the Sri Lankan breakfast was excellent. The location is a short bike ride from town, or if you have your own tuktuk as we did it’s about a 5 minute ride. It’s in the midst of the jungle. In our days there we had encounters with every type of bird in Sri Lanka. Monkeys of all varieties. Even Elephants. The near by lake, which you will drive by the signed path to, is a must at sunrise. Walking further down the road into the farmers fields (stay on the road, don’t walk on their crops) will yield incredible sunsets with peacocks calling in the background and a clear view of lions rock. Bungalows are simple, clean and comfortable. The staff went out of their way to ensure we had a great experience. We will most certainly return here in the future and highly recommend it to others. There is more to see in Sigiriya than you think, and a couple of days at the cottage is a great base to explore and relax. Mama, the local dog running around is very sweet. If you’re a dog loving traveler as I am - take care of her and show her some love. She’ll keep the monkeys off your tuktuk 😉

    I arrived late at night, and my first impressions were amazing. The hotel is calm and stylish; the entrance and lobby are elegant, and there were at least 2 members of staff working the front desk even though it was late at night. The staff was amazing. I’m a young guy and have stayed at nice hotels before and never once felt uncomfortable here. All the staff greeted you with a smile and were more than happy to talk. The staff truly set Sigiriya apart from its competitors. I was given a unit on the L side for my stay. It was a cool, pool-facing balcony. The room is huge, and I booked just the most basic one but upgraded to Deluxe +. A king bed, a comfortable sofa, and a small dressing area. I loved the style and layout. The bathroom was nice; again, I liked the style. Housekeeping was immaculate, and the room was left spotless—truly outstanding work by them. I spent much of my time at the pool; there’s plenty of seating that’s all plush and comfortable. The pool is large, and it was peaceful there. There seemed to be numerous staff working the bar, & you could order drinks and snacks. The only time I ate at the restaurant was for the free breakfast. Black coffee is included, as well as water and juice. The breakfast buffet is included, but wow it was nice & large. There was a selection of bread, charcuterie, fresh fruit, fresh juices, local dishes and action stations, and many to describe. Once again, I’m glad to have anything included.

    I rarely write reviews but this hotel… simply wow! First of all the staff! Amazing each and every single person! So professional! We took wooden Cabana, zero ants, clean and tidy, nice design, quite and peaceful outside seating area. Every day we’re back to the room they arrange some fun towels design 🥰 Ayurvedic amenities in the bathroom. Dinner buffet has many options for Europeans, not only Sri Lankan food. Beautiful view at the pool to Sigiriya. Peacocks, squirrels, monkey around the hotel area 🥰 Cycles are on request, there’s nice track around the hotel. Yoga at 6:30am on request. Forgot the name of the master but we enjoyed it so much! Thank you again! As it was just me and my hubby, first time we had a yoga session together and short meditation in the end. It was the highlight of the vacation. Dont miss this hotel! You won’t regret!

    Nimal the property manager and his staff were great during our stay, and overall, we felt very taken care of. When we had trouble getting a tuk tuk via pickme/uber to get around, Nimal would help us get that sorted. No matter how late we got back, they'd always have someone waiting for us in the main concierge area to make sure everything's ok and get our breakfast order. When Nimal learned we were traveling to Ella on the day of checkout, he informed the kitchen staff and prepare a snack (delicious AND amazingly packaged sandwiches and bananas) and water for our travel. We'd stay here again!

    The perfect getaway. The Kumbuk Chalet was just amazing, the bathroom needs a little bit of renovation but as long as it is clean it doesn’t really matter. The staff was really nice, they were very helpful when my bag was taken by mistake and investigated immediately, everything turned out well. Restaurant is very good and the surroundings are just so calm and relaxing.

    There is so much more to do in this area than I realised.

    There is so much more to do in this area than I realised. I will definitely come back. The area is beautiful and we were sad to leave. We dud Pidurangala Rock which was fun, more of an adventurous climb than Lions Rock. It has incredible views of Lions Rock. We also did a safari in Minneriya National Park. The park was beautiful and we saw so many elephants plus lots of varieties of birds, golden jackals, monkees, mongoose, the grizzled giant squirrel, buffalo and jungle foul. We also went to Dambula Temple Caves which is very spiritual and Luckgrove Spice Gardens which was an incredible experience. Highly recommend this area.

    We chose not to climb Sigiriya (having just recovered from Adam's Peak!) but instead chose the much shorter Pidurangala which afforded a fabulous view of Sigiriya. Highly recommended. A visit to the Bawa hotel, Heritance Kandalama, is well worth it as an insight into the brilliant architectural mind of Geoffrey Bawa.

    A beautiful place on earth that there are lots of 360 degree view points. But if it rains it will ruin your plans. So make sure you depend on weatherly and visit Matale when it shows many continuous sunny days. Even on cloudy forecasts do not visit as all mointain tops then will be covered and you will not see the sights. when it is humid leaches also will be active and will become a painful experience.

    A nice hike to view a breathe taking view. If anyone should travel to Sigiriya they should start to climb the rock at 5.30am as the ticket counters open. Wearing proper hiking or workout clothes would be the best.

    Dambulla is an excellent base for exploring Kandy, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Sigiriya. We stayed there for 4 Nights and could cover the heritage sites easily. Dambulla Caves are a must-see and so is Sigiriya (just 16 Kms. away). Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa are around an hours drive but Dambulla is much well-connected and less touristy.

    Mainly there are 10-12 attractions in Matale. As I just stayed one day which was not sufficient to visit all the places. Among them where I went were also hampered due to the rain at time to time. Generally Matele was quit good tourist destination if it is planned well with couple of days.

    Sigiriya is stunning and has a lovely village charm to it, compared to the tourist/backpacker mecca that is Ella. There are plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from but it somehow doesn't detract and Sigiriya still feels very local and true to SL values.
