Convenient location, it is about 5-10 minute walk from the train station and 15-20 minutes to the castle. The room I stayed was quite roomy, clean and comfortable. A top-floor onsen offers the mountain view for both indoor and outdoor baths. Buffet breakfast comes with variety of choices and tasty. Ice cream, yogurt drink, and evening Soba noodle, after taking onsen, are nice treats, worth a try. Staff are very attentive and helpful.

    We absolutely loved our stay at Kawaguchiko Country Cottage Ban! The cottage was cozy and comfortable, with a breathtaking view of Mount Fuji right from our terrace. We enjoyed the most amazing BBQ dinner, beautifully arranged like bento boxes — delicious and so refined. The breakfast soup was comforting and healing, truly the best we’ve ever had.     Excellent stay, and the view of the bay from the room was amazing. Both meals were delicious, and we had them in a private room. Also, there were a few private baths. The service staff were amiable and helpful. It is worth a trip to this remote area of the Noto Peninsula.

    Kanazawa is a gem of a town.

    Kanazawa is a gem of a town. We really enjoyed the Samurai quarter, it's quaint and not over-populated. Kanazawa castle is fantastic, and so is Kenrokuen garden. The museum of modern art is also compact and quite good.

    Takayama has a mix of quaint old architecture and modern smalltown buildings. It is less crowded than Kyoto and great for exploring on foot. Takayama is also a great base for making day trips to places like the Shirakawa-go Unesco heritage site, Kamikochi nature park and Shinhotaka Ropeway. The Nohi Bus Centre next to Takayama Station is excellently run and provides efficient transport services to these attractions.

    We were able to take great pictures of Mt Fuji from our window. The onsen and buffet was great. The price was affordable for a group of 8 with free breakfast and dinner. The room was clean and Yukata was included. Highly recommended

    We really liked Matsumoto and it was a much more fun and interesting city than we expected. We had an overnight stay, largely to visit the famous castle, after visiting Kiso valley. Would happily have stayed longer.

    Shizuoka is a hidden gem.

    Shizuoka is a hidden gem. You can stay here and get to many sightseeing destinations by rail (day trips) and come back to the relaxation of more laidback location. Locals are very pleasant and friendly, not so jaded by the over tourism of Kyoto and Osaka. We speak very limited Japanese, but were welcomed and managed in small local restaurants and Izakayas.

    I've been extremely lucky, I was in Niigata after a snowstorm and I found an amazing scenery of beaches under a white carpet. The fisherman market is an experience you should not miss, delicious food and crazy cheap bill. Try to drive the coastline!

    People there are very helpful and courteous. It is very clean, and uncongested. Quiet and peaceful, unlike the other cities. I highkt recommend pairing Toyama and Tetayama, i.e. 3 and 2 nights respectively . Simply amazing.

    Quiet seaside town with no tourists apart from us.

    Quiet seaside town with no tourists apart from us. Easy to get to from Osaka. Stayed in a traditional ryokan (tattoo friendly). Spent the day walking along the harbour to the ropeway up to Atami castle which had several different art displays and museums including an adults only one and a great view of the coast. Away from the beach things were pretty steep so a car might have been a sensible option
