The rooms are also a lot nicer than the star rating, although we did pay a bit more for a room with a balcony which I'd also recommend. Everything was amazing. The host gave detailed instructions on picking up the keys and getting to the parking. With the apartment you get free parking in the garage and beach access with sun beds. I wish we had more time to explore the area. We found a cute part of town with an amazing restaurant. We plan on going back to Trieste next year and would stay there again. The only issue we had with the unit was the area is a little run down, and the TV is very old and will not support streaming. Nice city with history. Unfortunately I was not lucky with B&B were I stayed and it was pouring rain with flood I tried 5 restaurants during the rain all of them said wére full at the end a hamburger restaurant accepted that I get in. We liked Muggia.
We liked Muggia. It is small and easy to navigate the old town. The main Piazza has several bars and cafes, friendly and welcoming for a drink or a meal, and fun for people watching. There are more cafes and bars towards the waterfront. Just stroll around and enjoy the relative tranquility. We arrived in Trieste by train, taxi to Muggia was around 35 euros. We took a day trip back to Trieste by ferry (fun in itself), and did lots of walking from Muggia. It's a nice respite from the tourist circuit, and so pretty with stone buildings and small alleyways, plus the castle (exterior) and Duomo to enjoy. The village itself has not much to offer (in terms of sightseeing), but for me as a base for exploring the karst by bike it was perfect. Trieste is a great "medium" size city. Not the WOW attractions (or crowds) of Venice or Firenze, quieter and a little more user friendly. Simpler and smaller museos, churches and sites. All of this is fine, Just temper your expectations. Central city is very walkable. Great, easy to use bus system. Day Bus trip to Slovenia was interesting and fun. (there are several) Hop on/off Bus is good way to see city.
