FAQs about hotels in Lombardy
Sophisticated and Serene
The diverse region of Lombardy touches the 3 largest Italian lakes: Lake Garda, Lake Maggiore and Lake Como. Their beautiful shores house many Lombardy luxury hotels and even more luxurious celebrity residences.
The rich and famous also flock to Milan, one of the world’s fashion capitals, where designer boutiques are found alongside La Scala opera house and the iconic San Siro football stadium. To the south, Pavia is best known for its elaborate monastery, while Monza to the north-east hosts the F1 Italian Grand Prix and World Superbike Championship.
Nearby Bergamo is the hub for cheap flights to Milan and it also has a historic old town, while to its east is peaceful Lake Iseo. A smaller lake is located by Varese, and artificial lakes also almost entirely surround the important medieval city of Mantua, seat of the Gonzaga court during the Renaissance.
Brescia to the north-west has monuments dating back to Roman times, while Cremona to the south-west has an impressive cross-shaped cathedral and huge belltower. This beautiful city is on the Po, Italy’s longest river which forms part of the Lombardy border.
Wherever you are staying, Booking.com has a fantastic range of accommodation including B&Bs, apartments and hotels in Lombardy.

There’s great stuff in Milan, but don’t come here expecting it to be Rome or Venice. You can probably see all the major tourist sites in a day or so. Fantastic selection of gluten free options (Bazac a huge highlight). Consider using this as a base for trips to Varenna and Como. As with Italy in general, taxis are expensive and if you use Uber you’ll have to use Uber Black. This can add up quickly.Guest review byChrisUnited Kingdom - 8.0

The Citta Alta (the historic part) is lovely to wander around and take in the architecture; and visit a church or two, and a museum or gallery. There are spectacular views from the Venetian Ramparts (Venice held the city at one point), not least full-moon-rise. And there are two funicular rides to take. But it can get packed in summer; on my first visit, I was "lucky" in that stories about Covid 19 had just begun to circulate and the place was almost empty. Nobody knew what to do in those days; one football league shut down, the other carried on. The cathedral had closed its doors, except for access to the Capella San Rocco (St Roche had healed plague victims many centuries before). Bergamo was Europe's tragic epicentre. It's an irony that in the nearby town of Clusone you can view a mediaeval mural of the Danse Macabre.Guest review byMikeUnited Kingdom - 10.0

For your accommodation look for a location close to the Duomo; from here you can reach all the tourist attractions on foot. Get your ferry tickets online. Enjoy an Aperol spritz or a glass of wine on a terrace in the afternoon.Guest review byOctavianRomania - 6.0
Beautiful town but very overcrowded with tourists.
Beautiful town but very overcrowded with tourists. Good choice of restaurants and ice cream shops. Lots of nice shops to buy souveniers and clothes. Public transport to nearby towns ends around 7.30pm and it's difficult to find taxis. Uber is very expensive at about E30-E40 for a 10 min journey.Guest review byAISLINGSouth Africa - 10.0

Most of the restaurants are over priced and too touristy, especially round the port and main church square. We eventually found Osteria Vinoste, Via Roma, which is opposite the lido beach but you have to book in advance... lovely place and staff and we went back. There are some good other ones but we had only a few days. The lack of cash machines was disappointing, make sure to bring euros cash here (Boats, ice cream etc). None of the local buses were on time and we had to take a taxi each time to go to the train station as it's too far to walk with luggage... very unreliable especially the small city buses ;(( The trains however are very good everywhere. I recommend spending time in the Tourist Info inside the station as they have local maps and timetables and were very helpful ! there is an area arounf the Castle which did look very different, quieter with local restos, def. would stay there next time! And you can walk to the station !Guest review byDjamalUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Having spent 311 nights in Limone you must understand that we like it and the surrounding north Lake Garda area. Last year it was selected as the most superb flower decorated town in Italy and at the international competition won the top five 'petals' in it's category of small resorts. The winter population is 1200 people but usually busy with visitors from the end of April till mid October. The only criticism this year is that I detected a cigarette end on some steps! Standards are slipping but the Mayor, Il Sindaco, was quite distressed. If in doubt just go and you will not be disappointed.Guest review byDuncanUnited Kingdom - 10.0

A must visit city, far better experience than over touristy Verona, for example. Many museums and sites of interest, laid back vibe at night , lots of restaurants with great variety of cuisines, mainly "locals" from suburbs or the old town, chilling in a very pleasant atmosphere, amazing historical buildings and Italian charm. Has all the architecture of "typical" Italy, but without the crowds.Guest review byMichaelUnited Kingdom - 6.0

Hotel easy to find although there was some confusion at the airport as to where the free airport shuttle bus left from but perhaps the driver was just having an off day. The room was well equipped and spacious but we had no hot water in the morning. Breakfast was good and plentiful. Staff were very helpful and friendlyGuest review byMargaretUnited Kingdom - 10.0

There's so much to do in the area. we went summer skiing at the glacier (Stelvio), which was ok (lots of long lines for the button lifts because of the hundreds of ski club teams). But the nearby QC Terme Bagni Vecchi was amazing. Would like to have stayed longer for hiking and mountain biking. Very nice little town and beautfil surroundings.Guest review byLu KoUnited Kingdom - 10.0

The ferry was very useful in getting around, and the staff were all very helpful with understanding the routes and times. Bellano was a hidden gem to visit with the waterfalls but the castle was a very steep trek that we didn’t find to be worth it at the end. Most restaurants close on either Tuesday or Wednesday so look up online incase there’s any you particularly want to eat at as we missed out on a couple. This is also the same for tourist attractions such as the villas. Coming from the UK we assumed everywhere touristy would be open 7 days a week but not in Italy. There is lots to do but just make sure you’re aware of the ferry times/train times so you don’t get stuck somewhere you don’t want to.Guest review byAnonymous
