If you are looking for a sleepy town with great food and easy access (boat/ferry) to the busier towns, then this is your spot. You can also rent kayaks, paddle boards, and take out a wakeboarding boat. We spent three nights here and we’re so bummed we had to leave. Como boasts of an interesting city centre which can be explored in about 2 days , together with a beautiful lakeside promenade ideal for a walk, a couple of parks and a few stunning villas by the lake. It is also a good base from which one can explore the picturesque towns and villages on the lake. However being at the southern tip of the lake, travelling to the northern part of the lake or the Lecco branch of the lake takes quite a long time. Plenty of restaurants which can be a bit pricey, but the food is delicious. Bellagio is just so nice. The jewel in the crown. Busy during the day but better in the evening. Saying that, you can still get around. It’s charming, clean and plenty of shops restaurants. Lecco is in the south part of Lake Como, but from almost all the cities that we look around the Lake, apart from Bellagio, Lecco is the most picturesque because the mountains chain in the Background. Is simply breathtaking. The city itself has nice restaurants, stores and the walk around the lake is fantastic. Is served from a Train station the reaches Milan and the airports in few times, make it easy to depart and come from overseas. I’d definetly book this place again, great views. It was fairly easy to get to and from, bit of a long journey but didn’t mind. The staff were great and the other people staying were nice to very international and friendly oh and I loved seeing peoples dogs but I’m not sure if they were staying there? It's a cute town with some lovely restaurants and easy enough to walk around for someone of average fitness. However if your purpose is to explore most of Lake Como, you will be limited to the slow ferry up to Bellagio / Varenna / Menaggio which takes 2-3hours. We had originally booked to stay in Varenna but cancelled due to works on the train line to get there. It still would have been a better option, or just staying in Como town to access the fast ferry.
