The hotel has an amazing location where you are close to everything but still in a quiet area. The pool area is beautiful. The views are outstanding. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are spacious comfortable beautifully decorated. We got an upgrade to huge suite with a big terrace and a Jacuzzi. Everything was perfect. Definitely going back and recommending to everybody.

Very good breakfast, with lots of choices and many desserts. The manager was very attendive, explaining each guest what the cakes are made of and what bread goes with each cheese. Great view. Before arrival we were a bit scared because the hotel is placed just near the port and we thought that there will be noise during the night, but everything was good. The hotel is very well placed, near the furnicular.

The building is right in the middle of Anacapri, on one of the smaller streets that come off the main square. Once you've walked down the hill, you'll find yourself in a lovely, spacious garden where you can leave all your day's worries behind. The view of the sea and the island is incredible, especially if you're lucky enough to be there at sunset. The rooms are tastefully decorated with stylish, minimalist furniture in a wide white colour scheme, which creates a relaxing ambience. The staff are really kind and polite. They make sure all clients get the attention and care they need. The breakfast is fantastic – really rich, fresh and perfectly prepared. The hosts will bring you homemade cappuccinos and coffee, as well as fresh orange juice, and they're happy to refill your cups whenever you need. Breakfast is enjoyed in the garden, surrounded by relaxing trees and in a perfectly silent atmosphere. A purring cat will just add a final touch of cuteness to the whole moment. It's also great that you can leave your baggage at the B&B il sogno after check-out. There's not much that can bother you at Villa Donna Carolina, it's such a nice surprise and definitely a place to enjoy again in the future. Thanks!

A Celebrity Hideaway

Sitting in the southern Bay of Naples, Capri is a beautiful Italian island that has attracted many a celebrity to its rocky shores. Most visitors arrive at the Marina Grande on boats from Sorrento or the Amalfi Coast.

As you approach this harbour there are delightful views of multi-coloured buildings set below mountains. Some of these are the few Capri hotels by the beach on Booking.com. Because of its dramatic terrain, most hotels in Capri are in the mountains.

The highest mountain is Monte Solaro and there is a walking trail up from Anacapri, a small town in the centre of the island. From here the views are magnificent, and on a good day, stretch all the way towards Vesuvius.

North-west of Anacapri, in the shadow of sheer cliffs, is the Blue Grotto (or Grotta Azzurra) - a sea cave where the light hitting it creates a brilliant blue colour. On the other side of the island are the Faraglioni, a series of rock piles in the Mediterranean Sea.

Overlooking them is the town of Capri, linked to the marina below by funicular railway, and best known for its handmade perfumes and the lemon trees that seem to line every path. You may even spot a famous face up here in one of the exclusive boutiques.

    I think this is by far one of the best places I have ever been. The location is unbelievable, directly on the sea surrounded by trees and with direct view on the Faraglioni (rocks which are the symbol of the island of Capri). One goes to bed and wakes up by the sound of the waves and of the seagulls. Our room was clean and spacious, with a large terrace and a breathtaking view. The breakfast was also abundant and various. All the staff was extremely kind and friendly, a special thank to Mrs Giusi and Kevin, Mrs Assunta and Asia.

    When I arrived, I got my room with an amazing view. The receptionist was very nice. Room was small, but very clean and nice. AC is also available in the rooms. TV offers all the italian channels (which I like). In bathroom was everything ready for my, robe, towels, and even slippers. I really like it and enjoyed my stay in this location. If you are tired of the sea, you also can use their swimming pool, where you get a towel and chair included in price of your room.

    Great situation and lovely staff. They even gave us a free room upgrade for our kids so we could be closer together. Communication was excellent and they were in touch to let us know they’d got our room ready for us early so we were able to check in at 10.30am! We really felt they went out of their way to be helpful and to make our stay as easy as possible. Breakfast was delicious and the homemade lemon marmalade is a must!

    Capri is great to explore via taxi, get up early and head up to Ana Capri, less traffic more intimate area. The chair lift is a must to the top of the mountain, and lunch up top of the mountain is amazing. Capri is nice in the evenings to walk around and shop with plenty of places to get cocktails, and explore.

    Anacapri is way quieter than Capri.

    Anacapri is way quieter than Capri. I see that as a good thing. Anacapri gets busy during the day with all the day trippers... Thanks to the gondola, Blue grotto etc. But once they leave... that's when Anacapri shines. We loved the quiet evenings, the amazing sunsets, the now empty swimming holes... Loved it!

    The center of Capri is mostly shopping.

    The center of Capri is mostly shopping. We went for a long walk. We enjoyed areas of the island away from the center of town. As soon as we walked away from the tourist shopping, we had the place to ourselves. We saw almost no one. That was a pleasant surprise. We also took the bus to Anacapri. I liked Anacapri better than Capri. Anacapri felt a little more authentic than Capri. I am glad I went to Capri but I don't feel a need to go again.

    Lovely village feel. So much nicer than Capri. Go down the back streets where the locals live. Nicer to stay the night as it gets quiet in the evening with most of the tourists gone. 10 mins walk to cablecar.

    I would suggest to friends doing day trips, reason being it was expensive as expected, accommodation is a huge cost on top of dining, souvenirs etc. to me, ferry’s each day is better value if you want to spend a couple of days.

    We loved staying in Anacapri for a weekend...away from the mobs in Capri. Beautiful, friendly little town with terrific restaurants. Really nice in the evenings when most of the tourists are gone. We took the chairlift from right in town up to the top of the mountain. It was amazing. We did go down to Capri one day to take it in...then retreated back to Anacapri! We loved being able to walk to the town from our hotel (San Michelle). It was all so beautiful. The hotel staff gave us great recommendations for restaurants, and what to see. If we went back, we would definitely stay in Anacapri.
