FAQs about hotels on Crete
Centuries of History, Days of Sunshine
The largest Greek island, mountainous Crete has stunning beaches, plenty of history and as much or little nightlife as you want. Party town Malia has many bars, clubs and restaurants on its Strip.
Along the coast is the capital Heraklion, a bustling city home to many Crete hotels on the beach, and a Venetian castle guarding its port. Its archaeological museum includes finds from the island’s Minoan era, while just inland are the Roman remains of Knossos.
Also boasting a Venetian castle is Rethymnon, a popular resort with a good number of Crete hotels with private pools on Booking.com. Loggerhead turtles nest in season on the sandy beaches here and at Chania, an important port with an attractive waterfront set against the backdrop of mountains.
On the other side of the island is Aghios Nikolaos, a small fishing town with a picturesque harbour. Just north is Elounda, a popular family resort, and offshore is Spinaloga island, inspiration behind the book ‘The Island’. Matala in the south has a bohemian vibe and intriguing cliff dwellings, while Paleokastro in the east borders Europe’s largest palm forest at Vai.
We could go on and on about magnificent Crete beaches, but whichever resort you choose, you can be almost guaranteed fantastic food and a good helping of sunshine.

- From US$329.22 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.3Very good - What previous guests thought, 864 reviewsThe hotel offers excellent value for money, especially for families with kids. The waterpark has a lot of slides, and there is a new aquapark project for 2025. Food is tasty and various, drinks are also OK. It is important to say that the hotel is not fancy, but it provides all that you need - and that is very good. You can also walk by the seaside road to the neighboring village, which gives you nice views. Loved roaming around old town with its many laneways, shops and restaurants. Close to the port . Beautiful view. Easy town to get around. We walked from Nea Chora and used local buses to get to many out of town locations. Eg. Stavros Elafanissi Falassarna. Favourite beach is Golden Beach (a short walk from Nea Chora). Water was crystal clear and it almost has golden sand. Sand at Nea Chora is brown. We did not find a bad restaurant in Chania. Food was excellent. Service is not always good and some waiters were very rude. Red Jane bakery and Bougatsa Iordanis must visit - excellent.Guest review byDeborahAustralia - 6.0
The town was buzzing and full of life.
The town was buzzing and full of life. Some excellent restaurants (peskesi a stand out) Beaches were stunning especially when blessed with perfect summer weather. BUT, the traffic is terrible, parking is difficult, road-rules are optional and the lane-ways are very narrow. Visiting Knossos is an absolute must.Guest review byGeorgeAustralia - 10.0
Amazing Resort and extensive facilities on site.
Amazing Resort and extensive facilities on site. Staff are amazing. Also one of the best mani/pedi I ever had at the salon. Resort is about 30 minutes from airport, and would say for a 5* Europe resort, this lives up to expectation, but don't compare to a 5* Caribbean or Mexico Resort, so bear that in mind. We stayed at the Ocean view room which had spectacular views. The Rocky beach was just fantastic with the lounges and beds, and considering how busy this resort is, never noticed it and never felt overcrowded, and you never had to reserve benches or lounges by the beach or pool, there was more than enough to go round and even more spare. A la Carte restaurants that were amazing and my favourites are Umi (Sushi), Azzuro (Italian), Thalassa for breakfast & lunch, Poseidon. A real let down of the restaurants was Nami, only delicious items were the Starters. Staff at this resort were fantastic overall, but special thanks to the following: Anastasi, Konstantina, Angelina, Ritsa and Lucas.Guest review byBandeleUnited Kingdom - 8.0

From Almyros beach you can walk to the end of the beach and join a footpath which leads you straight into town. About a 20 minute walk to centre where there are plenty of shops and restaurants. Fantastic restaurants and cocktail / wine bars, most doing traditional Greek cuisine. Can’t say we had a bad meal but all display menus so you can pick whatever suits your taste.Guest review byLindsayUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Kissamos offered us a wonderful mix of relaxation and local charm. The nightlife was a pleasant surprise, with cozy bars and lively tavernas where we enjoyed delicious food and drinks. Evening walks through the town square and the nearby streets filled with local shops and traditional products were some of the highlights of our stay. It's a great place for couples looking for a laid-back yet authentic Cretan experience.Guest review byKonstantinosGreece - 8.0

Difficult to judge because we came early in the season when there was a cold wind blowing and not all the places were open. However, there didn't seem to be many places to eat [not a problem for us as there was one excellent place, though would be a problem peak season] . There were a number of apparently abandoned and ill-maintained buildings, which made the place appear less attractive.Guest review byAMELIAUnited Kingdom - 10.0

It was very pretty and friendly, not too busy although I imagine it would be earlier in season. We visited end Aug into Sept. Lots of choice of restaurants and bars. Can get the bus to surrounding towns and villages or boat trips round the coast. Close to the island of Spinalonga which is interesting to visit.Guest review byDianeUnited Kingdom
