A Perfect Combination of Culture and Fun
A favoured weekend destination, the island of Andros is only an hour and a half away from Athens. Named after Andros, a hero descending from the line of God Apollo, this beautiful island features traditional villages, golden beaches, high mountains, small rivers and green valleys.
Featuring great nautical tradition and home to famous Greek sailors, Andros is not similar with any other island in the Cyclades. This small paradise is a great cultural destination thanks to its many museums and their unique collections of paintings, sculptures and archaeological exhibits.
The lovely Chora is the capital of Andros and one of the most popular villages of the island. Wander around the narrow alleys, admire the Neoclassical and Venetian-style houses, and admire the beautiful stone bridge.
Rich in history, the island has several towers including the tower of Ayios Petros and Fryktoria. Built by Venetians, the Pano Kastro was the largest city in Andros during the Middle Ages.
Built over a gorgeous natural harbour, the resort of Batsi has a sandy beach, shallow waters and nice taverns serving local specialties. Booking.com has a great selection of hotels, apartments and guest houses in the magnificent Batsi.

- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.7Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 215 reviewsMy boyfriend and I stayed at Aneroussa Beach Hotel for 3 days in May and we had an amazing time! Location: the hotel is a short (beautiful!) walk (15 minutes) from the city centre of Batsi, which is great because we walked there and back for dinner. The location of the hotel itself is great, it’s in a calm place and the views are beautiful. Room & facilities: we stayed in room 332, which is beautiful. Bathroom is great, bed is comfy and the views from the balcony are just amazing. We loved that the cleaners cleaned our room while we were having breakfast, so we found our room clean when we went back upstairs. Staff: we had the pleasure to chat with them and they are amazing and super friendly. They really made our stay special! Breakfast: breakfast is until 11:15, which was a blessing because it meant we could sleep a bit longer! The food itself is great, there is a really big variety of traditional Greek food and also more mainstream breakfast items. The spinach pie is awesome! Overall: we absolutely loved our stay and high recommend it. We’d love to be back soon!Guest review byGaiaItaly
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.3Very good - What previous guests thought, 21 reviewsLovely, peaceful place, just outside of the hustle and bustle of Chora. Make sure you have a car. We had a family suite, which was spacious and exactly as pictured. We had a small balcony facing the pool and a private patio with a small garden. And of course a Greek vacation cat, which loved petting but would also be happy just lying in the corner. We saw lots of little lizards and even a small gecko one night. In the kitchen a small fridge with a small freezer space and a water kettle. Basic kitchen amenities and enough to get by. We had two drying racks on the patio. Shampoo and shower gel provided, as well as toothbrush. Beds a tad hard but ok. Cleaning comes by every day and is very thorough. Pool is great, good to cool down and the pool beds are out of this world. So comfortable. Breakfast was great, lot’s of variety and a nice view. Owners are very kind and welcoming. We felt at home at the property and very well cared for. Recommended for anyone, family or couple. We would absolutely return.Guest review byPaulinaNetherlands
- From US$52.14 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 7.9Good - What previous guests thought, 1,042 reviewsThe hotel is perfectly located in a walking distance from Gavrio port. We were a bit afraid that rolling our two 20 kg suitcases from the ferry to the hotel will not be manageable and considered even a taxi for a while... However, the walk was relatively short, on the pavement although a bit uphill. Our room facing the sea and southern direction was spacious, comfortable, functional and clean. It had a good size balcony with the table, chairs and place to dry wet clothes. We were missing a kettle in the kitchen and the reception delivered it without delay. The room was cleaned every day and trash removed. We could park our rented car safely in the property every night. We didn't use the swimming pool and the bar due to late arrivals from our sightseeing. The hotel is a good choice for tourists who drive a lot around the island and don't spend too much time in hotel facilities. It is convenient location for ferry transfers and good option for eating in town not needing taking a car.Guest review byAGNIESZKAPoland
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.4Very good - What previous guests thought, 331 reviewsBeautiful art deco hotel with newly and tastefully furnished/decorated rooms in white. Nice balcony with furniture. There is plenty of hot water and toiletries in the bathroom, a fridge and kettle with cups, saucers and wine glasses. Exceptional pool area with an abundance of sunbeds, uv parasols, grass, and dappled shade under the trees. Huge pool. There is almost certainly a serviced bar in the pool area in high season, but it was very quiet in the hotel in early June. 10-15 minute walk into the main part of Chora for bars and restaurants and it's a €45-50 taxi from Gavrio port. Very friendly and helpful receptionist who booked restaurant and taxi for us as well as giving good recommendations during our stay.Guest review byJoannaUnited Kingdom
- From US$103.09 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.0Superb - What previous guests thought, 316 reviewsWe got a room with a sea view which really exceeded our expectations, we literally never wanted to leave the terrace. During the day you see the see the sea and at night there was a beautiful moon and many stars. We literally woke up with the sound of the waves. The old town was less then 5 minutes away where most of the restaurants and shops were. The owner was super nice and very friendly. He gave us a map of where everything is and he gave recommendations on what is a must see and what we should avoid. We asked him if we can use the hose from the garden to clean up our car but while we were in our room he cleaned the car on his own. I truly recommend this place.Guest review byMilaNorth Macedonia

The room was comfortable and clean. We had a little terrace with the most wonderful view over Batsi. Breakfast had a variety of traditional options and everything was tasty! The pool was clean and big and we enjoyed our coffee relaxing a few times. The hotel is situated 5 min on foot from Batsi, a great place with restaurants, bars and clubs as well as beaches. - Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.1Superb - What previous guests thought, 241 reviewsWhat truly stood out to us was the deep sense of calm and peace throughout the place. Karl and I felt completely relaxed, and the boys were calm and happy, as the soothing atmosphere helped ease away all our stress. The location is stunning and quiet, the perfect setting to unwind and recharge. But what made our stay truly special was the kindness and attentiveness of the staff—they welcomed us like family and made us feel genuinely cared for. It was an experience we’ll always remember.Guest review byKarlAustralia

It’s the best place to stay on the island as it has something for everyone. Amazing beaches, awesome cafes and fantastic taverns with breathtaking views. The beaches are crystal clear and there are heaps to choose from. All within walking distance.Guest review byDinaAustralia - 4.0
Not a hospitable island!
Not a hospitable island! Third class and expensive facilities. Most of the locals are rude and it seems that they do not like visitors! If you want to visit Greece there are at least 100 beautiful islands and places to visit . This was the worst experience that I had in Greece and I feel ashamed that these guys claim to be Greeks Greeks are very friendly people ! Most of the islands even if they are small offer very good facilities! Do not waste your money and time in Andros . Concluding I would like to mention that I was very Impressed by the “Skalakia “ restaurant in chora! Excellent food and service. Mrs Maria was extremely friendly and professional. Make sure you reserve a table ahead of time.Guest review byHelenUnited States - 6.0

We were there in May so not quite season. It’s very small but served as a good base to visit the island. Some good tavernas. Bit nothing else to do there. Not a beach nearby that is nice for swimming or tanning so would probably recommend Batsi over Gavrio.Guest review byChristineNamibia - 10.0

This is an ideal place if you don't like to be in the capital city with a lot of noise and traffic. You are far enough from the street and have your own peace and quiet, and at the same time you are very close to the city where there is entertainment and an active nightlife. Everything you need is in the area, restaurants, shops, beaches etcGuest review byMiroslav PetrovicSerbia - 10.0

This is an amazing natural beach, some parts are sandy and others with small white pebbles. Not a lot of people around on the time of my visit (June). The surrounding landscape is beautiful. There is a small tavern above the beach.Guest review byMichael PapaioannouGreece - 10.0

Ano Aprovato presents an optimal setting for hiking...
Ano Aprovato presents an optimal setting for hiking enthusiasts. Beginners can embark on a picturesque route stretching from the western region to the heart of Andros, connecting with the semi-mountainous village of Ano Aprovato. This path predominantly traces the historic trail traversing the western and southern slopes of Mount Petalo. It maintains a relatively level trajectory, offering captivating vistas spanning from the mountain's coastal edge to the island's interior. Spectacular panoramas unfold, encompassing views of the sea, the valley of Megalos Potamos River, and the coastal town of Chora with its twin bays. For more seasoned hikers seeking a challenge, there's a 10.9km point-to-point trail near Ano Aprovato. This route, deemed moderately demanding, typically requires around 3 hours and 15 minutes to complete. Ideal for both hiking and running, this trail promises solitude amidst nature's embrace, with encounters with fellow explorers being rare. Accessible year-round, it boasts timeless beauty, beckoning adventurers at any season.Guest review byDimitrisGreece - 10.0

International cuisine but look for the hidden gems in little back streets with local food. Local taxi service in the square -but walk...its healthier! We had no children with us but this isnt 'waterworld'....take the kids to some fantastic quiet beaches away from the hoi polloi- theyll have more of an adventure of discovery.Guest review bySteveUnited Kingdom - 10.0

This destination is delightful, offering a wide array of culinary options. The local cheeses are exceptional, and you'll discover restaurants that cater to both casual diners and those seeking a more upscale experience. The ambiance is tranquil, making it an ideal retreat. Renting a car is advisable to fully explore the island’s beauty. While September may be slightly cooler, it also offers a more serene atmosphere.Guest review byMelissaIreland
