Matt was the most welcoming and helpful host. The Ocean Mist was so unique to stay in and was extremely well maintained. We enjoyed settling in with a drink on the upper deck. The location of the hotel was the best we could imagine! It is very close to Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile street. Everything is near the Hotel, you can go everywhere worth on foot. The hotel is very clean, with beautiful places inside. The room we stayed was very nice, clean, with nice mini bar and awesome bed, the most comfortable bed we have ever slept on! The whole staff were so kind and friendly! They helped us with anything we needed. Natalia and Yannis, who are Greek as we are, were of the most kind people working in the hotel. Moreover, we were lucky enough to watch live music on Saturday night by a wonderful band, while eating dinner in the hotel restaurant.

FAQs about hotels in Scotland

A Rugged Jewel

With round-top mountains and green hills extending in almost every direction, and stone houses dotted around, Scotland is a jewel of nature forged by ice, winds and seas over thousands of years. But Scotland is much more than beautiful landscapes: it’s the finest malt whiskies in Moray County, the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, the kilts and the bagpipes, the exciting and modern Glasgow, and much more!

The country can be divided into 3 areas. The Highlands and Islands have mountainous landscapes and numerous bodies of fresh water, including Loch Lomond and Loch Ness, as well as little cities like Inverness and numerous islands like the Isle of Skye. Don’t miss the deals on Booking.com if you’re looking for hotels in the Scottish Highlands.

The Central Lowlands are the most densely inhabited area, and with Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen located in this part of Scotland, 5-star hotels are common here.

The Southern Uplands are composed of a range of hills and valleys stretching almost 200 kilometres, home to several hotels with a spa - a relaxed option to enjoy this area.

As some of the more unusual Scotland hotels, castles can be a particularly good option to enjoy a Scotland holiday in royal style.

Breakfast was delicious with home made granola, and bread with lovely home made jam. The full scottish breakfast was superb. The conservatory was a beautiful place to eat and to view the gorgeous well kept garden (to which guests have access). The house has been beautifully furnished and much thought has been given to the interesting art. The hosts go absolutely above and beyond to make their guests comfortable and nothing was too much trouble, even down to the variety of gins in the honesty bar! Would definitely recommend.

I stay at Kilconquhar Castle Estate whenever I visit Fife for work and golf. It is in a perfect location close to many of the top golf courses in the world. The staff are always personable, accommodating, and helpful. The villas, although a bit dated, are perfect for golf holidays with a group of friends. We loved having the three-hole warm-up area available before hitting the links, as most Scots do not warm up before playing. The bar is a great place to unwind after a day on the links. I highly recommend the estate.

I really appreciate your attention to reducing the carbon footprint of a hotel -- I liked having glass glasses in the room, real cups, very little plastic or one-time use plastic. Have you ever gone someplace and felt like: "Wow.

Have you ever gone someplace and felt like: "Wow. I'm home."? That was Inverness for me. I've been to Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Aberdeen before, but I fell in love with Inverness. The people, the city, the mythology surrounding the Scottish culture, the quiet location, the music (live music every night at The Highlander). It just felt like home. We had a lovely dinner at The Mustard Seed, which I highly recommend, did one of the best walking tours I've ever experienced on our first day, and did a dolphin watching boat tour on our last day. I cried when I left. Can't wait to go back and see more of Inverness and expand to the Black Isle.

Fort William is a lovely little town with a beautiful Loch, it is a bit touristy for my liking but there are so many wonderful things to do in or near by that it is well worth a stay here. The museum in the town is a treat, Inverlochy castle is a little treasure. The Nevis range cable car is a must, the views at the top are breathtaking and not to be missed. Also nearby is The Glenfinnan monument & viaduct, again absolutely beautiful views & an absolute must. There is more but we had a limited time.

Halloween is a must in Paisley, I was taken aback at how much effort goes into this, well worth seeing. We ate in the Pendulum which was pretty average. Black Bull for drinks, it can get quite crowded but a great atmosphere and the Multan Tandoori is worth a visit great value for money and very tasty. Two Towns Down is a must, the first brewery in Paisley in 125 years, go in have a drink and you can have a conversation without loud music or a TV blaring, 22 of us arrived there and we were all looked after by the lovely helpful staff
