This hotel is pristine clean, the facilities wonderful, and a lovely location right on the side of the lake. However, what makes the hotel even more wonderful is the staff; they were incredibly friendly and accommodating, delivering an excellent customer service throughout our stay. I think this is more appreciated as we were English and spoke hardly any German, and it was a predominantly German hotel (as we expected). This was the first stop on our Honeymoon, and they were wonderful on upgrading our room so that it had views of both the mountains and the lake, adding rose petals on the bed, they decorated the table formally for our first dinner, and as a farewell they gave us a bottle of sparkling wine.
I particular want to identify two members of staff who were particularly lovely ; Lara who was on reception and greeted us to the hotel was very nice and made us feel very welcome. And Sören, who we believe was the restaurant manager, and who looked after us on both evening meals, and whose customer service was outstanding, ensuring we were comfortable the entire time.

We absolutely loved our stay at Helmerhof! My husband and I were searching for the perfect spot to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and Helmerhof was a delightful discovery that went beyond our expectations. Our apartment offered stunning views of the mountains and garden. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, enhancing our experience even further. We also highly recommend the hotel's restaurant, where the food was nothing short of delicious. On our first night, we were touched by the staff's thoughtful gesture of reserving a beautifully decorated table for our anniversary dinner. Clean comfortable hotel in a beautiful location with excellent spa facilities. Plus points for us was tesla charger included in cost, we are a family of vegetarians and vegans and we're well catered for. Ate in restaurant for 3 meals, all excellent with great service. Staff very friendly and helpful. We opted for a balcony room for one of us which was amazing with views of neuschwanstein Castle and the lake and mountains. 2 other rooms were without the view but were large and comfortable.

We loved our stay at Das Konig Ludwig. The staff were very polite and helpful, the breakfast was delicious. They had a good variety of cheese, fruit, yogurt, breads, fresh squeezed juice, a spectacular variety of teas, and many healthy options. The hotel was very clean, the beds comfortable and the shower had very good water pressure. No wifi issues throughout the property. The spa and pool areas were well kept and the towels were plentiful. We cannot wait to go back.

I stayed in Füssen manly to go look at Neuschwanstein and the Wieskirche, but discovered the old city is gorgeous and it also has wonderful trails to hike in the surrounding areas! I would definitely come back!

Memmingen is a nice town.
Memmingen is a nice town. Sadly we are always just doing a stopover so never get the chance to explore, but it looks an interesting place and not far from the Alps.
11 to 19 Oct 2025 was the Krammermarkt fair. Caused us a problem by not being able to make a return stopover at the Joesepps Hotel (with onsite traditional 'Octoberfest style' restaurant due to the fair, but the Algau Memmingen Nord provided an excellent alternative.

Reaching the Nebelhorn mountain top in just six minutes from the village and the Alp view all around is just fantastic.
Great walks through and around the Breitachklamm.
But of course everywhere packed with tourists all the time.

Excellent little Bavarian town. Surrounded by trails, mountains etc. If you don’t like quiet, then this is not for you. But Oberstaufen is located a short drive from the towns of Lake Konstanz and all the touristy things that you may require.

Worst apt. where I was. Dirty and smell. Key box on the ground behind trash can and you will be have a problem with open the key box, because of rust and in a rain also wet.
Problem with parking and no internet connection.
This place is for animal not for human. Dirty socks front of the door. Used dishes and leave it in kitchen. If you open the fridge, you have a fiiling that there died some animal, not for food.
Best thing it was hole in the wall, where you can see out of the apt. and it was not possible to cover somehow. It was fck cold inside, because od this hole.
The kitchen is unusable, I don't understand how they can rent it without cleaning, they leave a used fork there.
Bathroom, same story, dirty, dust and mold.
Go away from here.

The town is lovely for a walk and for viewing the painted buildings. You can also get some good beer. Prices are higher due to the proximity of the castle. The town is an ideal place to stay for visiting the castle or for hiking. The roads are well maintained, as are the cycling and hiking trails. Our visit was at the end of September, with slightly worse weather, so we did not experience any crowds.

The accommodation suited me well. I spent most days visiting local places of interest and particularly liked Lindau (on the Bodensee), Wangen im Allgäu, a fascinating old town with a brilliant market (Wednesdays), gorgeous old buildings and interesting street sculptures and fountains, as well as a very varied and entertaining museum, partly housed in the town walls. Lindau is well worth a visit and is quite elegant with a Mediterranean feel and some interesting shops, as well as the Old Rathaus and buildings round the buzzing harbour. Tettnang is also worth a visit if one is interested in history and architecture. An outing into the mountains further east is also worthwhile, with walks and other excursions (cable car) around the charming little town of Oberstaufen. Views of the Austrian Alps and the alpine flowers make it worth the effort, if you enjoy rambling. This is a good centre for a wide variety of activities.

I did not enter any of the castles or museums. I had done that 50 years ago, as a student in Munich. I liked just walking around, soaking up the tourist vibe, predominantly Chinese. I even liked the rainy-sunny mix of weather, so characteristic of the Allgaue region.

Only a 3 day visit, on way back to Bavaria from Italy & Switzerland. Nice beautiful town and very historic. Excellent hiking and numerous castle attractions to see. Very friendly atmosphere by all the locals in shops, pubs, restaurants, etc.
