One of the best things that happened to me two years ago was stumbling into the Trofana Tyrol as a fallback guest after a long journey from southcentral Austria. The small hotels in the villages en route were full while the downtown ones in Innsbruck were either shut for the night or so expensive that I could not justify the expense for what would be an in-and-out stay. So I decided to sleep in my car at the next autobahn rest area. Much to my surprise this particular rest area happened to have a hotel, and they happened to have one room left on this busy August night. I took it with a degree of trepidation, as in America motorway rest areas are not known for anything but desperation stays. My fears seem to be confirmed on rolling my little suitcase through the Eni shop and into the darkened concourse. I crossed an aerial bridge atop that concourse also in darkness, and figured this was going to be a bad night but definitely better than sleeping in my car. But when I put my key into the large wooden door the wonderfully warm world of Austrian Alpine hospitality unfolded before me, as though I were miles away from anything but mountains and fresh air. My room was clean and snug with a large window that opened out onto the mountains and framed a view of a softly illuminated church steeple atop one of the crags. There was a bottle of wine with two glasses, a small card with chocolates taped to it and a close-by TV with wide range of German, French and English stations. With toasty heat and piping hot water to boot, and not one sound I could hear beyond the birds in the morning. I have since been back to the Trofana Tyrol 5 times, always asking for the same room although I have had different ones on two occasions which were equally cozy and one of which had a walkout balcony too. Everything. This hotel impressed me. The total score on booking is 8.4, but I do not think it is true. This should be well above. The building itself is lovely, historical. Rooms are spacious, with all essential comforts. It is very clean, and still offering daily cleaning of the room, something that I have not seen for ages. It offers a free car park and sauna. The breakfast is various and with plenty of choices. The restaurant, is a must. One of the best tried in austria

There was a language barrier because we don’t speak much German and our hostess didn’t speak English. However, our hostess made us feel extremely welcome and very comfortable. The room was bigger than we expected, based on other bed and breakfast places where we have stayed. The breakfast was outstanding and the quantity of food was generous. We highly recommend this place if you are looking for a bed and breakfast. Off street parking was good

staff were very cheerful & helpful. Special mention for Denise & Andre the chef. Nothing was too much trouble & I had a great Birthday last night. The room was great & the lift was a blessing. The garage for our motorcycle was great as well. We would definately recommend a stay here!!

This family owned traditional Austrian hotel was an absolute delight. Food was very good staff welcoming and attentive and not a single peice of chrome anywhere. If you want a typical Austrian hotel this is for you.

Great original 'pub' in the middle of Imst. Perfect for a group of Aussie bikers for an overnight stay. Cold beer, lovely biergarten.

Perfect experience if you want to live in castle. But I guess only for the rooms in the castle.
