I used to visit Alpen in Austria many times in various places; the big centres are totally full of people during the season. Recommendation: For kids - Geister Wald (Ghost forest) - 4,5km long hike with fun activities for kids. Our kids loved them. Just to be aware - you need to pick up from the info center a map where kids could get stamps and also you need 2euro coin to get a wooden ball from the machine you can find just at the start of the hike. Gosau had everything we needed for a wonderful, relaxing holiday - a grocery store, multiple restaurants, beautiful views, friendly people, and many trails for hiking, biking, and walking. This is lovely village in both winter and summer.
This is lovely village in both winter and summer. Beautifully unspoilt by no big touring companies taking over, and the tourist accomodation is predominantly private. Gosau is getting really popular among the tourist who want to visit places in Austria. Closer to Hallstatt, it offers serenity and options to hike, do rock climbing and ride mountain bikes. Little village with only few little shops, neareast supermarket 6km away in Gosau. Crosscountry slopes not in site, you have to get to Gosau or Abtenau (12km away). Good site for downhill skiing and for summer hiking.Guest review byJanCzech Republic
