This very affordable homestay is part of a young family's dream - and it really shows. It happens from time to time that I give accommodations the maximum 10/10. When it comes to Mango Roots, however, I have to give at least 11/10😉 The lovely host couple are extremely generous and welcoming - or as my wife exclaimed: -They are the nicest host couple we have ever met! The rooms and bathrooms were built five years ago and are very fresh, well-furnished and very clean. The beds are so comfortable, the a/c works quietly, the shower is nice with hot water, etc. etc. They have also invested in solar cell technology, rechargeable lamps and universal wall sockets that fit Euro plugs, among other plugs. The accommodation is located in a quiet and safe area and the two rooms are located on the upper floor of a separate building. Unfortunately, we did not have dinner there, but we did get a fantastic Sri Lankan breakfast and lots of new knowledge about fruits, plant cultivation and Sri Lankan cooking in the bargain. Beautiful mansion in the middle of greenery with centennial trees overshading the house and pool. Perfect location for digital detox: no TV, no A/C, but the nature sounds and cooling canopy provide for better views, sounds and breeze. The swimming pool and adjacent patio are awesome for after dips and drinks. Just bear in mind to bring mosquito repellent as in all locations in this area.

My recent stay at Gampaha Heritage was truly wonderful, with warm hospitality from the staff who went above and beyond to ensure I had everything I needed, making me feel genuinely welcome from the moment I arrived. The guesthouse is immaculately clean and well-maintained, with spotless rooms and a fresh, tidy atmosphere that made for a very comfortable and relaxing stay. The peaceful surroundings, combined with the quiet environment, created the perfect place to unwind. The rooftop area was an added delight, offering a lovely space to relax and enjoy the view. Breakfast was excellent, featuring a delicious Sri Lankan-style spread with great quality and variety. The location is ideal for a tranquil escape while still being conveniently close to Gampaha city, making it easy to access shops and restaurants. From here, you can also travel easily by train—whether pre-booked online or with regular tickets—to destinations like Ella, Anuradhapura, Trincomalee, Hikkaduwa, and Mirissa.
