The English speaking female non-japanese staff was very friendly and pleasant. The ryokan also sent us to the bus stop when they learnt we are taking the bus to Hakata. The room, while one of the smallest, had plenty of space and faced directly onto the river. The private onsen and public bath were great; I specially enjoyed the outdoor onsen.
