If you are prepared to travel there (we travelled from Kyoto which was a long day of trains and buses) you will not be disappointed.

Established in 1666, Honke Bankyu is housed in a registered historical building. The Japanese rooms feature traditional decor, futon bedding and a flat-screen TV. A wonderfully authentic traditional ryokan with spacious, comfortable rooms and beautiful river views. The public onsen was perfect—hot, clean, and peaceful with great natural scenery. Dinner was a delightful kaiseki experience with impressive presentation and thoughtful local dishes. The staff were warm, professional, and attentive, making the stay truly special. The setting with a charming rope suspension bridge adds to the unique atmosphere. A perfect getaway for onsen lovers seeking relaxation with excellent hospitality. Highly recommended. The accommodation was spacious, cozy, and beautifully located in a quiet forest area with a lovely pond — the perfect place to relax and enjoy nature. Our host was incredibly kind and attentive, even offering us rides to interesting sightseeing spots around Nikko. The dinners with traditional Japanese dishes were absolutely delicious and a real highlight of our stay. We truly enjoyed every moment and would love to come back again! 🌿🇯🇵✨

The facility was very nice and seemed to be recently renovated. The location is very convenient - close to a bus stop and to Heiki no Sato. The room was spacious, clean and bright - very comfortable. We enjoyed the private bath. Although it was described as indoor, we were delighted to find that it had full-length windows looking out onto nature so it felt out door to us! The staff were all very friendly and accommodating. :)
