Everything was so well thought of and they were the kindest and most serviceminded people we’ve ever met. The home cooked and super fresh dinner was so yummy. The homemade plum wine is a must try so is the homemade jam for breakfast. Our room had the most amazing view over the mountain and the town and was newly renovated. Everything was made by Yuki San and Ken San themselves. And if they hadn’t made it the furnitures would have been on the family for long time. Did I mention the bed and duvet already - we had a perfect nights sleep.

An incredible experience in Shirakawa-go! My wife and I stayed there for only one night and it was gorgeous! The hotel is run by a local family which lives in the city for more than 100 years. The ryokan was recently renovated (2y from now) and the rooms are truly impecable, combining comfort with a historical touch. The food service (dinner and breakfast) are unique, with dishes the family collect in the area (they harvest, fish and even hunt the food they serve). The hospitality was also another level. The remarkable example was that we mentioned in the beginning of the stay we were travelling to Japan to our honeymoon and they quietly prepared a mini event during our dinner - they asked our favorite song, which was our mother language and specifically asked if we drank alcohol. During the dinner, they did a small celebration typical in japanese weddings where the couple shares a sake on a red bowl. Thank you Shiroyamakan team! 👏

El Auberge Hidanomori, inaugurado en 2022, se encuentra en unas colinas tranquilas, a 10 minutos en transporte desde la estación JR de Takayama. Auberge Hidanomori is one of the gems of Takayama. It is a fantastic property, with beautiful rooms and 2 private onsens. Very friendly/helpful staff, and the meals were some of the best we had in Japan. Fantastic pairings!

This is an excellent property to stay in and feels like very recently renovated. Spotlessly clean, with all the facilities we needed. Cooking and laundry facilities are all new and easy to use with helpful English translations on the key buttons. The AC was very welcome given the time of year and very high temperatures. The location is only minutes walk from the older town streets with shops and places to eat. Also only about 5 minutes from a good supermarket, ideal if you want to do some ‘home’ cooking.

We were lucky enough to be the only group that was booked during our stay, and it was exceptional. The house offered a little slice of what country life is like but still have the accessibility to a decent sized town. The Japanese garden was relaxing, and having a little family shine out back by the woods really made the property even more special. We took the tatami room and I was afraid that it might be uncomfortable, but it was some of the best sleep I had during our trip. If you plan to take a bus there, take the H02 or H03 (Hirayu s Hiohotaka line - stop H14) and walk about 10 minutes. He property itself has 3 rooms that the owner rents out, 2 tatami rooms and 1 western style room. There is a full kitchen downstairs, a bathtub, and a separate washroom, which was a nice touch since it allowed us to do our thing without having to wait for the toilet/shower. On our last night, we cooked a little meal and enjoyed it in the traditional dining rood.

Absolutely immaculate, due partially to it being brand new, but the craftsmanship is brilliantly executed. To say it exceeded our expectations is a massive understatement. It's very comfortable, private, clean, and well equipped. The location is nice since it's very close to everything, but also a little off the beaten path so you can escape the crowds. The route into the centre along the river is idyllic and such a treat. There's even a tiny playpark nearby for little ones, but it has seen better days. Highly recommended.
