Buffalo Hills Private Game Reserve is a hidden gem situated in the Drakensberg highlands near Sterkfontein Dam in the Eastern Free State +/- 35km outside of Harrismith. Self-catering accommodation is offered in 3 separate units, namely The Fishing Cottage, The Farm House, and The Mountain Lodge. All units come equipped with comfortable beds and a fully-equipped kitchen and dining room. Other in-room facilities include a lounge area, a fireplace, TV, DStv, Wi-Fi, and an outside braai area. The Mountain Lodge is the most expensive unit and offers a luxurious stay offering accommodation in 4 thatched chalets built into the mountain rockface with stunning mountain views. It also has a small rock pool and a lovely braai area. The Farm House was the old homestead of the owners and is also located on the Reserve. It offers spacious accommodation surrounded by rolling lawns with valley as well as mountain views. It is situated about 2 km from the Mountain Lodge. It is surrounded by old stone farm outbuildings and has undercover parking for 4 vehicles. It also offers a small conference facility housed in an old converted barn. This facility can accommodate about 20-30 people and is ideal for family gatherings. An outside caterer is available to provide catering if required. The Fishing Cottage is situated just across the road from the reserve entrance, It is situated next to a 47ha dam and is ideal for water lovers and fishermen. The dam is stocked with Barbel and Carp and offers excellent fishing. This unit offers lovely accommodation at a budget price. Please note that the use of a 4x4 vehicle is recommended during the rainy season. Guests are advised to enquire about the condition of the road before traveling to the Reserve. When the road is dry it is safe to use normal vehicles to travel on the road, but the use of a 4x4 vehicle is also recommended for game drives. On-site activities include fishing, mountain biking, hiking, and bird watching.
