After working for over 30 years as a Hydrographic Surveyor, John gained his chef certification at the world renowned Ballymaloe Cookery School in East Cork. The ever evolving breakfast menu has been designed to tease the taste buds. Mary spent the majority of her career as a nurse aswell as training as a nutritionist several years ago. Her input and tweaks to the breakfast menu and knowledge which led to our water purification system has been invaluable in the constant pursuit of providing our guests with the best and healthiest options available.

Built in 1752 on the site of a Franciscan Abbey, today Avonmore House is a 9 bedroom Georgian Guest House over 3 storeys. Perfectly located with off street parking in the quiet area of South Abbey ,Youghal and only minutes walk from the beach. The house boasts quiet rooms of all types, a guest lounge with small library and comfortable armchairs. With our "reverse osmosis" water system all the teas and coffees served are made with purified filtered water free from chlorine, fluoride and other chemicals and foreign bodies. Guests also receive a large bottle on arrival and are free to refill at any time during their stay nullifying the need to purchase bottled water. The substantial continental breakfast in each room is complimented by a variety of homemade freshly baked breads. Each room has a fridge, seating area and smart flat screen TV with netflix, amazon prime, etc. Since 2020 we now have automatic sensor hand sanitising stations situated at the front door and the dining room. Room cleaning procedure remains highly professional.

Youghal is a seaside resort town in County Cork, Ireland. Sitting on the estuary of the River Blackwater, in the past it was militarily and economically important boasting residents as Sir Walter Raleigh. Built on the edge of a steep riverbank, the town has a long and narrow layout. South Abbey lies at the South side of the town just between the Beach and the town centre. Its synonymous for the affluent large houses built in the 18th Century.
