Beautiful location right on a very long sandy beach, the immediate proximity to the popular Kommos beach and the surrounding villages Matala, Kamillari or Sivas made Kalamaki a popular holiday destination. Probably the most popular beach in southern Crete is the Kommos beach. Although it is a popular destination due to its length, expanse and wild beauty, you'll find plenty of space and tranquility for a lazy sunbathing even in high season. A large area is used as a nudist beach, but there is also enough space for dressed bathers. Hiding in the dunes is the small Karibu Bar, which at first reminds one of a Caribbean oasis. Hammocks, loungers, self-carved masks and many lovely details make it a restful place of pure relaxation. Kommos beach is within walking distance of Kalamaki. Another very popular bar is the Bunga Bunga Bar, nestling in the rocks at the end of the Kommos beach. There is a nice selection of individual dishes. Nevertheless, the prices are absolutely manageable. In addition, beach chairs are offered directly on the beach. During the peak season in the summer months, there is even the possibility to be massaged directly on the beach.
