The Masse Family
Welcome to Maison Masse! The building was once the French Consulate and belonged to the prominent Masse family, who arrived from France and settled in Rhodes nearly two centuries ago. Today, the family's descendants have lovingly restored the property—honoring its historical significance, architectural heritage, and the unique character of its surroundings. One of the house’s most striking features is its spacious courtyard, paved in the traditional Rhodian style with black and white pebbles—a timeless local craft. The neighborhood of Niochori, once in its prime, was a vibrant multicultural hub home to numerous foreign consulates. Many French and Italian families made their lives here, not only as diplomats but also as scholars, merchants, and doctors who played a vital role in the island’s development. A lasting monument from that era is the Catholic Church of Santa Maria della Vittoria, which still stands proudly at the heart of the district, surrounded by charming, narrow alleys that speak to the area’s rich past. Niochori is also known as the island’s first tourist center, dating back to the 1930s, when the luxurious Albergo delle Rose opened its doors. Amarandou Street, where the house is located, is considered one of the most beautiful and serene pedestrian streets in the city. Lined with blooming flowers and filled with a sense of calm, it offers a peaceful retreat—yet remains just steps away from restaurants, shops, entertainment, beaches, and only a 10-minute walk from the Medieval Town, with its castle and renowned museums.
We are the family behind Maison Masse, proud descendants of those who once lived within its historic walls. This house is part of our heritage, and welcoming guests into it is a deeply personal experience for us. Our greatest wish is that every visitor feels not like a tourist, but like an old friend—embraced by the spirit of Greek philoxenia, the timeless tradition of open-hearted hospitality. We are always nearby, happy to offer local tips, assistance, or simply a warm smile—ensuring your stay is as comfortable and memorable as the island itself.
Amarandou street is the most beautiful and peaceful pedestrian street in the city, full of flowers, and its characteristic is absolute tranquility. At the same time, it is within walking distance of restaurants, places of entertainment, shopping center, beaches and 10 minutes from the Medieval Town with the Castle and the Museums.
