In 1783 Digby was settled by a hearty band of United Empire Loyalists led by Rear Admiral, Sir Robert Digby, Captain of the HMS Atalanta, a 24 gun Brigantine, leading the North American Squadron. In appreciation of Adm. Digby's leadership and guidance our early settlers from New York and New England named their new town in honour of their benefactor. The Town of Digby has been an active fishing and lumber producing community throughout the years. Famous for the delicious scallops harvested from our local waters, spectacular vistas of The Annapolis Basin from our waterfront, clear crisp air, and of course the incredible tides (28 to 35 ft.) in our harbour, we offer our visitors a wonderful opportunity to visit or to settle in for a relaxed way of life. We would like to respectfully acknowledge that the land on which we gather is in traditional Mi'kmaw territory, and we acknowledge with respect the diverse histories and cultures of all the Mi'kmaw, Innu, and Inuit Peoples of this province.
