Everything was great! It felt like you had your own room while visiting grandma's house. The traditional Japanese style house was very comfortable and cozy and it was a great place to rest after a long day out. All the basic necessities were available, and there was even a complimentary ticket to the onsen nearby. The host lady was very nice and caring, always ready to help if you needed something. Location was also great, a short walk from the nearby train/bus station terminal to get to wherever you need. There is also a convenience store if you need to get snacks, and if you're hungry the host also runs a local Snack Bar Kitchen that you can order food from! Will definitely stay here again when i return!

The hostel is well maintained, very clean and spacious. There are two mixed dormitories downstairs, two single beds and two three-bed rooms upstairs. Two toilets and a shower downstairs, and one toilet and shower upstairs. The place feels very homely. I met quite a few other solo travellers that night during my stay and we all had a lovely chat. It was a great atmosphere. Take even goes out of his way to recommend me dinner options and next day itinerary recommendations. Guy has a drawn map for evening and morning food options, as well as biking and walking route for sightseeing. For the nearby onsen, take prepares a shower kit for guests to bring for use over there. Honestly I felt well taken care of, in a safe and comfortable location. The living room and kitchen is free to use for guests. Matsumoto felt like a safe town too and everywhere was easily accessible on foot or on bike. It is a hostel I will visit again for sure.

My party of 5 total stayed only one night when hiking the Magome to Nagiso section of the Nakasendo. Proximity to train station and Nakasendo trail was the original selling point, but we fell in love with the place as soon as our host toured us around. It feels like staying at an artsy bed and breakfast, except you provide the breakfast and you get the entire place to yourself. There's small, delightful touches of personality and hospitality every where you look. We did not want for anything. Our sweet host met us at the front door to enter data from our passports and then gave us a walk through of the building. Two toilets and two showers was perfect for a group of 5. Fridge and other kitchen appliances work great. We listened to the CD disc player on the wall while reading the books and it was a lovely experience.The futons were placed very thoughtfully according to our parties needs. In addition to the trail and train station, there's a grocery store, a historic bridge and a cafe all within a couple minutes walk. The patios were a great hang out spot and we saw monkeys near the river around 7am. Honestly, I wish we had stayed longer but our plans dictated we move on. Next time we will try to book a few more nights so we can explore the area more!

Pick up and drop off service was great and really useful. Also provided good tips and recommendations for food, skiing and other activities.

Being able to have a free lift before check in was massively helpful. The location at the bottom of the slopes of Tsugaike is perfect too. A really positive and warm atmosphere - I highly recommend staying there!
