My party of 5 total stayed only one night when hiking the Magome to Nagiso section of the Nakasendo. Proximity to train station and Nakasendo trail was the original selling point, but we fell in love with the place as soon as our host toured us around. It feels like staying at an artsy bed and breakfast, except you provide the breakfast and you get the entire place to yourself. There's small, delightful touches of personality and hospitality every where you look. We did not want for anything. Our sweet host met us at the front door to enter data from our passports and then gave us a walk through of the building. Two toilets and two showers was perfect for a group of 5. Fridge and other kitchen appliances work great. We listened to the CD disc player on the wall while reading the books and it was a lovely experience.The futons were placed very thoughtfully according to our parties needs. In addition to the trail and train station, there's a grocery store, a historic bridge and a cafe all within a couple minutes walk. The patios were a great hang out spot and we saw monkeys near the river around 7am. Honestly, I wish we had stayed longer but our plans dictated we move on. Next time we will try to book a few more nights so we can explore the area more!

Hakuba Cortina Ski Area is 14 km from the hostel, while Togakushi Shrine is 41 km away. Matsumoto Airport is 67 km from the property. We really enjoyed the breakfast and the shuttles to the mountains. It was perfect for getting us fed and up and mountain quickly in the morning. Place was clean and our 6 bed dorm was much more spacious than we were expecting (and very comfortable). The staff were absolutely awesome and gave us some great recommendations and advice.

The staff are pleasant and very accommodating. The general vibe was exceptional, including amongst other guests. I’m a solo female traveler and stayed in the mixed dormitory but I had 0 discomfort. The host runs several shuttles in the mornings to drop off patrons in the morning, so we can then take the town shuttle to get to different ski resorts etc, as well as evening shuttles to pick you up from town and take you back to the guesthouse.

Extremely friendly staff, especially if you speak japanese. Delicious food, breakfast and dinner. Shuttle service for when you arrive in Nagiso is very good. Unbelievably comfy space, all traditional japanese style.

Situated in Suzaka, 1.9 km from Suzaka City Zoo, Guest House Kura features accommodation with a garden, free private parking and a shared lounge. Owner and staff were super friendly and helpful. Stayed for 6 nights but will be back next year for long as so much to do in the area including some awesome hikes. Relaxed atmosphere and great opportunity to met fellow travellers and locals.
