On a rail trip from UK thro France Italy and returning via Switzerland this topped our list of our favourite places that we stayed at overnight. 2 things helped, the novelty ex prison conversion and the beautiful old city of Chur. It is a hostel and it gives you the option of eating food that you want (to eat after a week of eating out) in the communal kitchen. The conversion has been to a high standard and the architect has followed a good sustainable approach. We thought it was scrupulously clean and comfortable. The room size was adequate but if you were staying for more than 3 nights you may want more space. Coming here you have already accepted the 'hostel' ethos but you can use it as a room only hotel if you want. Clean, comfortable, quirky and well designed.

Situated at the edge of the forest, the hostel is a good base to go skiing in the Upper Engadin ski region. Cross-country skiing, hiking and cycling routes are all within 60 metres from the Youth Hostel. Clean, well located (bus stop just in front), nice people and environment. I big big thank you to Simona who was exceptional in helping me with a car issue at a very late hour! This is what real professionalism and kindness is! I was impressed and very grateful

Located around 16 km from Lake Cauma, the hostel with free WiFi is also 46 km away from Viamala Canyon. Guests can enjoy mountain views. I have forgotten the owner's name (I apologize) but she was absolutely amazing. So nice, friendly, caring, helpful, etc. I asked about a local beer at dinner and she just gave us one to try, no charge. So friendly! My own teeny tiny issue was the single bed I had for the night was a slat bed and I am a very big person so some of the slats kept popping out so if you are big like me, maybe ask for a room with a double bed. That said, no hotel is 100% perfect but this is as close as it gets if you just want an affordable, clean, and comfortable place to stay with excellent food for dinner and breakfast, beautiful scenery, and, again, an amazing host who is actively involved and cares about your comfort.
