The location is very convenient. It is near to bus stations going to the primary tourist spots and Shinjuku express too. The owner is also very friendly and welcoming.

It feels incredibly authentic. For anyone staying here, I'd just say trust the process, the host is the sweetest little old man who hosts really fun karaoke evenings. It wasn't what we expected going into it but this place gave us some great laughs and memories for life.

Stayed in double room. Location is fair and right off a bus stop/near a few stops around it. Great forest and mountain view in front of the hostel. Check in is easy, the staff is friendly and speak decent English. The whole hostel is calm and peaceful with all the wood architecture and cosy feeling with all the decorations. For the room, there's the train running right in front of the window and its not a bad thing, its not very noisy, instead it gives a good vibe. Futon is thick enough so we did not feel the tatami floor at all. There's a shower room of onsen, very very hot water so I barely enjoyed it but my partner did. There's food provided at night which is great as we were tired with all the walking daytime. They serve ramen and rice etc and taste just fine given the price and location (right in the hostel).

Location was easy to find from the bus we took from the train station. The hostel was exactly what we wanted, and the staff were incredibly friendly and easy to get a long with. They directed us to the nearest Onsen that would be open late, and lent us some bicycles so we could cycle there through the peaceful town. The on-site bar was one of the nicest i've been in and the cocktails were excellent, we had to try every option available. The owner and bar staff were great fun and we had a great evening with their hospitality. We wish we could have stayed another night! Good transport connections to the local attractions, and the owner made some excellent suggestions on where we should visit. Could not recommend the place more. A highlight of our trip for sure and we wish everyone at Root Hakone the best.

Really nice place, very good ratio quality/price (clearly better than other accomodation in Hakone). Owner is very kind and helpful. Breakfast is good. Private onsen perfect also. Pretty and tight rooms.

I like our room, it was clean and nice with touch of traditional Japanese room and has a view of the garden and mountain. It is really relaxing trip for us in Hakone. The staff were very friendly and accomodating.

    We loved the pool and ping pong tables. Great location close to the train station and cable car. Easy to do laundry and helpful staff. Nice rooftop terrace. We can recommend taking the stairs down to Miyagino and the superb Tokyo sushi. We also loved the beautiful onsen Yuryo a few stops away with the train. Lots of locals and you can combine your bath with a nice dinner.

    This is a lovely hostel, beds were very cosy and comfortable & the amenities were clean and really good. The staff were also really good and helpful and the little bar was fab! The food in there was delicious. Would stay again & would recommend.

    Exceeded expectations. Lovely hostel with a nice bar. Bunks were custom made, very spacious with good ventilation. Very comfortable to sleep in. Proper number of showers, which is convenient. Staff was very helpful to give relevant information to get around the area.
