Family hotels and homes in Haputale

One of the best hotel experiences I've ever had!! Stayed here for two nights and it was the highlight of my trip to Sri Lanka. The hotel itself is absolutely amazing. Beautifully decorated with lovely views and peaceful surroundings with many birds to see. They had recently had some wildfires nearby so apparently in normal times you can see even more wildlife than what I saw during my stay. There is also a stunning waterfall nearby (almost in the hotel grounds) that the staff take you to and that you can have completely to yourself or perhaps with a couple of locals. I also did a hike with the staff up to the mountain behind the hotel which was great. Then afternoons spent lazing in the pool, chatting to the staff and with complimentary High Tea as I watched the mist float through the mountains. There were no mosquitos in that area too which meant that they could have the large windows open (even at night!) with one whole side of the hotel open to the fresh air and views. There are only two rooms in the hotel, though they have plans to build another couple of buildings in the future (though also with a very secluded feel). I was the only one there during my stay which meant I had the whole place to myself 😍 The best thing about Capoe though is the staff. Isham, Eranda, the wonderful chef and the gardener who guided the hikes. They were all so friendly and attentive and really made my stay, especially as I was a solo traveller and they were very friendly and chatty (though also give you your space when you need it). I've never had a private butler before, let alone one that is trained in both wildlife spotting and making cocktails! Wonderful stay! The view and the excellent dinner deserve special mention.

Haputale is a lot nicer than for instance Ella- quiter, less tourists, perfect hiking, etc. And Vantage Hills have a breath taking view of the valley below. The staff is the kindest people possible.

We stayed at the most wonderful hotel, and it honestly exceeded every expectation we had. From the very beginning, the manager went out of his way to help us organize our trips and make sure everything ran smoothly. He took his time to talk to us, offer advice, and make sure we were comfortable with every plan — something you don’t often experience in hotels. Our server, Ranawada (apologies if I got the name slightly wrong), was absolutely amazing. He was always so kind, attentive, and full of interesting stories about the food and the local culture. Every meal felt special, not just because the dishes were different each day and always delicious, but because they were served with such care and pride. Throughout our stay, we were surprised again and again by so many thoughtful gestures — both big and small. From the warm smiles to the little details that showed how much the staff truly cared, it all made us feel at home. Their attention to detail and genuine kindness were unforgettable. The rooms were beautiful, spotless, and so comfortable, and the location couldn’t have been better — peaceful and scenic. It’s rare to find a place where every single person seems to genuinely want you to be happy. Leaving was honestly bittersweet — I was ready to go home, but it was hard to say goodbye to the wonderful people who made our stay so special. We will remember this experience for a long time and recommend this hotel with all our hearts.❤️

Huge spacious, spotlessly clean room with incredible views. Absolutely loved the big beds with white crisp sheets. We were very tired and smelly from the hike the Pekoe trail, Shan took such good care of us, did a huge load of smelly washing and provided hot tea on arrival. We were so grateful!! Dinner was fabulous with lots of cold beers. Thank you to Shan, so respectful, interested and interesting. Highly recommended

The staff are wonderful. I must mention Bushbar who was so accommodating, kind and helpful. We had a delicious takeaway breakfast on checkout as we had an early train back to Colombo. The room was very comfortable, breakfast and dinner very good. Location is a 15 minute walk or 5 minute tuk tuk drive from the main street of Haputale which we loved. Great place to stay with plenty of walking through the tea plantations and small villages. Liptons Seat is only an hour tuk tuk ride away - the full day walk back to The Nest is beautiful. Highly recommend if staying in Haputale.

Guesthouse run by a young, smiling Franco–Sri Lankan couple. Our stay was really wonderful, the area is not touristy and feels very authentic. The tea plantations are simply stunning. Personally, it was my favourite part of the whole trip to Sri Lanka. The room was large and clean. We also had dinner at their upstairs restaurant on both nights, for a really small price. We used the laundry service as well. I highly recommend staying here, above all for the great overall experience. Thank you!

This b&b is managed by Dilshan and gentle Piyumi and their family. They manage the place with charme and love and you feel to be home as soon as you step inside. They are ready to offer suggestions for sightseeing with a local expert. I was amazed seeing a few European customers that keep coming back to the Guest House. When I left I realized why. The room we had was spacious and had a terrace with view. Topically Sri Lankian style decorated. A large bathroom with shower and morning breakfast with local traditional food. WiFi was available and good. Do not expect luxury’s, but attention and love is guaranteed.

We stayed at Adisham village home for 2 nights and were made very welcome by Samire and his lovely family. We were the first to stay in the newest family room and it was beautiful. Very spacious with our own dining table where our breakfast and dinner was served. The view from the balcony was spectacular and the place is away from the road so very quiet. Samire was happy to help us with any of our requests. We also used the services of their taxi with Mr Ajith who was a very kind and knowledgeable guide for our tour to Liptons seat. Highly recommended!

We felt at Home in this beautiful place. The hosts are very friendly. We really enjoyed pour stay in Ceylon Shadow.
