Family hotels and homes in Haputale

One of the best hotel experiences I've ever had!! Stayed here for two nights and it was the highlight of my trip to Sri Lanka. The hotel itself is absolutely amazing. Beautifully decorated with lovely views and peaceful surroundings with many birds to see. They had recently had some wildfires nearby so apparently in normal times you can see even more wildlife than what I saw during my stay. There is also a stunning waterfall nearby (almost in the hotel grounds) that the staff take you to and that you can have completely to yourself or perhaps with a couple of locals. I also did a hike with the staff up to the mountain behind the hotel which was great. Then afternoons spent lazing in the pool, chatting to the staff and with complimentary High Tea as I watched the mist float through the mountains. There were no mosquitos in that area too which meant that they could have the large windows open (even at night!) with one whole side of the hotel open to the fresh air and views. There are only two rooms in the hotel, though they have plans to build another couple of buildings in the future (though also with a very secluded feel). I was the only one there during my stay which meant I had the whole place to myself 😍 The best thing about Capoe though is the staff. Isham, Eranda, the wonderful chef and the gardener who guided the hikes. They were all so friendly and attentive and really made my stay, especially as I was a solo traveller and they were very friendly and chatty (though also give you your space when you need it). I've never had a private butler before, let alone one that is trained in both wildlife spotting and making cocktails! Great hotel with view on tea plantation. Hotel offer you real espresso with sri lanka coffe beans. Room are clean and very nice design. However the hotel ist in 1400 atitude , room was warm and cozy. Owner and his staff are polite and always in good mood and ready to help you.

This was the most incredible location with stunning views and also so relaxing. It was a beautiful stay and the staff were so friendly. We told Rafael it was our honeymoon and he organised surprise decorations for us at our room and dinner. Vipula was also very helpful and friendly. We loved loved loved our stay and would highly recommend it. It felt like we were alone in the clouds and the pool is one of the nicest we have swam in. The food was wonderful and well priced and so were the drinks

Very nice and spacious room with incredible view. Friendly and helpful staff. Cooking class highly recommended! Delicious food (breakfast and dinner). Very good value for money.

We really enjoyed our stay there. The owner is really helpful and can set you up for touring the surrounding area. It's a little outside of downtown but ask about the shortcut and getting around becomes much easier. A stream flows by the property to send you to sleep and the porch view from the rooms is really something.

Amazing view and friendly host

If you come here don't expect any luxury hotel, but a true authentic local experience. We had an incredible human connection with Sana and his lovely mum, who started calling us son and daughter. We really felt like home even cooking the best rice and curry with our new amma 🫶 We almost left crying, but we are sure that we have a family in Sri Lanka that will always welcome us back. They have only one room for the guest that is directly connected to their home, no fan and no a/c but you don't need in Haputale, cause it gets chilly during the nights. The narrow road to the house is quite steep, only for tuktuk, and while we were there was under construction, so it will get way better soon! Don't come here with expectations, but with an open hearth.

My stay at Thumb Up was truly special! Ghanty made me feel really welcome and at home, the atmosphere is one of familiality and kindness towards their guests. The room was clean and very comfortable, perfect to settle in after a long day of exploring Haputale and the beautiful nature around it with a scooter you can rent directly from them. Watching the sunset from the roof terrace overlooking the tea plantations and hills really rounded off every day and made my stay even more enjoyable. If you‘re looking to stay in Haputale, this is the place!
