Cathy was the ultimate host, nothing was too much for her. We arrived on a hot day and she even turned up with an ice-cream for each of us. The breakfast was possibly the best I have ever had, did not need to eat the rest of the day.

We had the most fun and amazing stay at Matty's Pub Apartments and would totally recommend staying there. You would never meet a more friendlier bunch of local folk or a more welcoming and laid back host. It was made quite clear from the start that meals were not part of the package but were available if required close by.Matty certainly made our time in Royaloak very special.

Our host Michael was conducting renovations but kept a ground floor room available for us due to our early booking. The property is wonderfully historic and backs onto the River Nore, with on site parking and our double room was very comfortable. Michael provided us with a cooked breakfast each morning in the picturesque upstairs breakfast nook. My wife alternated between the salmon omelette and muesli with yoghurt while I plumped for the full Irish breakfast each morning. Delicious! This was also a great base for visiting nearby sites such as Kilkenny, Waterford and New Ross.

In the Heritage Village of Leighlinbridge, just 10 minutes from Carlow and 20 minutes from Kilkenny off the N9, the Lord Bagenal has been renowned for award-winning food and wine.

I stayed here on short notice for work and the hotel was amazing. I had no idea that the town even existed before booking, but the location was amazing. A lovely little town right on the River Barrow which includes a medieval castle and beautiful bridge. The hotel was very well managed with beautiful artwork and fresh flowers on display. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The food was delicious. The restaurant has a great menu and the breakfast was cooked to order. Some of the nicest food I've had in a long time. I will 100% be back.
