This one is a true gem. I have no idea if I'll ever return to Cuenca, but if I do, I'll look no further than this place. A bit difficult to find even if it can't be located more conveniently than it is. There is absolutely no sign in the street to indicate that there might be a hotel at this location. Which, by the way, is called "Balcon del Arte". And NOT "Hotel en el Centro Historico". Anyway, you'll need to look for a relatively deep hallway, enter it from the street and at the end of it ring a bell. Once you enter, you'll see a wonderfully furnished establishment. Rooms are every bit as good, clean, hot water reliable and wifi steady. No English is spoken, but Google Translate makes things smooth. The staff are very nice and helpful so eventually everything is sorted out easily.

Franco is a spectacular host! His kindness, attention to detail, excellent breakfast/cappuccinos, and helpfulness are rare. The property is so fabulous-rooms have every amenity you might need, and are beautiful. The two interior courtyards are relaxing and inviting to sit and read. In a way, it is hard to leave the property to see Cuenca! Very convenient and safe location.

Lovely old building, beautifully restored and decorated and comfortably furnished. Very convenient location, walking distance of everything, including the tram stop to the bus station and airport. Spacious bedroom, fabulously quiet, comfy bed, extensive buffet breakfast. Shared balcony with sofas and chairs to relax in the open air if, like us, you prefer to be outside in the daylight. Very pleasant, helpful and friendly staff. We were able to leave our bags after checking out and after a day exploring Cuenca relaxed in the hotel lounge for a couple of hours before our evening flight to Quito - so much nicer than waiting at the airport! This hotel is the best we’ve stayed at in our four weeks in Ecuador and perfect for a two or three night stay.

Great place close to Historical Center, great price, communicative and pleasant staff, room cleaned daily, change of towels and the rest. We had the King Suite overlooking the street. Can be a bit noisy in the mornings, but that just means you have to get up and experience the city. The room is very big and tall and the bathroom small. What an amazing place! The saddest part of our stay was leaving and only having the opportunity to stay for a single night, if time had allowed, we would have stayed a week! The location is perfect for the old historic centre, the cathedral is an easy walk, so much of the historic centre is walkable from here. The staff were so incredible!!! So kind and helpful, with great English and knowledge to share. Nothing was too much trouble, from extra coffee, so booking taxis and restaurants. The breakfast was one of the best meals we've eaten in Ecuador (and we have eaten very well in this country! - but this was a REALLY great way to start our day!) The Tigrillo was a really fabulous Ecuadorian breakfast cooked and presented beautifully. This is such a beautiful property, very well maintained and full of gorgeous murals on the walls, the roof terrace boasts a stunning view of the city sky line and the garden is a wonderful place to enjoy the breakfast. If we get the chance to return to Cuenca, this is the place we will stay for sure, and the place I would recommend to any friends who plan this trip!
