Family hotels and homes in Ojo de Agua

Our 2nd visit and we extended it further once we got there. The staff are brilliant (and helped me with improving my Spanish) and the place is unique. We like the Canta Rana bungalow best as it has a lagoon around it, but they are all privately located in the jungle. The dinner deal is great value and good food. There are trails to walk and animals and birds all around. One of our favourite places and we've travelled to over 60 countries. Thanks Merlin and team.

The lodge is surrounded by nature in a clearing directly on the Golfo Dulce. There are only 6 bungalows, so the number of guests remains small and this provides a very relaxed atmosphere. The bungalows each have 2 bedrooms, both with their own bathrooms, one of which has an outdoor shower. In one of the rooms there is an (empty) fridge, a coffee machine and a tea maker. There is no television (why would there be in this environment). There is no air conditioning, only a ceiling fan, which is quiet and efficient. All terraces offer beautiful views over the gulf. The two bedrooms are only separated by a thin wall, so you can hear everything that happens in the other room. They are therefore more suitable for families or if you know each other (very) well and can put up with that. We were travelling as two couples and didn't realise this. We felt it was a great courtesy that we were offered accommodation in separate bungalows for at least 3 of the 4 nights we had booked, as the booking situation allowed for this. We also felt that we were well looked after in every other respect. Everyone was very friendly and our every wish was fulfilled. There were lots of animals to watch and the best thing was the macaws that had their lunch in a tree on the beach every evening. We had a partner massage in an enchanted spa in the forest by a stream, which was unique. You get used to the lack of air conditioning surprisingly well, especially as it cools down to 20°C at night and the bungalows are open all round (protected by fly screens). Contrary to expectations, there were hardly any mosquitoes. The food was very good and varied enough for a 4-day stay. There was only a small salad as an alternative to soup as a starter, in this respect there could be a little more choice. Everything is very attractively designed. Thanks to the Kunken team for a great stay at this special place! We will definitely be back.

Location was incredible! Saw a lot of wildlife. But what was even better was the host! Would a 100% recommend.

If you are looking for pure nature and you dont mini to sleep in rustic accomondation in the jungle, the place is for you.

The best place we stayed in Costa Rica. Dario and Frederica have set up something special here in Dos Brazos, near the Corcovado National Park. Set in the heart of the jungle, in a lovely small Gold Mining village this beautiful guest house is a fantastic place to stay. Great welcome, the most comfortable bed, shower and space of our trip so far. A lovely fresh breakfast, great self catering facilities (but Frederica is a chef and will cook your dinner). Watching the jungle birds from their deck was a true joy. They went out of their way to book us a guide for a day exploring the jungle - a shout out to Jose who was a brilliant tour guide to the jungle. He grew up in the village, was fantastically knowledgeable about animals, history and Costa Rican life. Speaking excellent English. He is also a great artist - get him to show you the furniture he makes. Dos Brazos is also worth a mention such a lovely little village, the residents there welcomed guests so warmly, everyone we met had a smile and hola. Try the homemade ice creams advertised from small house! Perfect treat after a hot walk. La Casita means little house, but this is a little house with a big heart thanks to Dario and Frederica’s love and attention to detail. Wonderfully embedded in the nature… Great experience and, Most important: don’t worry about the mosquitos - no Problem! Sève had a great stay!

My girlfriend and me had three wonderful days here. This cute little hut is located right in the cozy village of Doz Brazos. Nature is all around around you: If you like that (and don’t mind seeing one or the other bug), you’ll love this place. Animals we saw and heard were chickens, cows, lots of cute dogs and even a Tucan in the distance! And regularly, some hummingbirds visited us while we had breakfast on the terrace. The house itself has a kitchen and a semi-open structure. The walls for example don’t go all the way up, which probably helped the airflow & was the reason why we could sleep without a fan. There were fans in our bedroom & the main room. Our bedroom was lockable from the inside, the other bedroom had a curtain instead of a door, but that would’ve been fine for us as well. Honestly speaking, we were a bit skeptical upon our arrival. But this skepticism quickly went away due to these factors: First of all, because of our hosts. The family lives right next to the hut and was super welcoming, nice and helpful. During our first breakfast, they even brought us a nice welcoming snack! With all the kindness, they still left us plenty of privacy. Another reason were our temporary “flatmates“, another couple that came for a day and moved into the room with the curtain. They were very kind as well & we had some nice conversations on the terrace. Last but definitely not least is the initial reason why we booked this place: Access to the Bolita rainforest trails. Since the owners work at the Bolita rainforest hostel, free access (without any guides) to these beautiful hiking trails through the jungle was granted. Though I imagine, we would’ve seen more animals if we had an Costa Rican with eagle eyes with us! Luckily, Carlos, one of the owners, offers guidance (only Spanish though). Very soon, we felt very comfortable and happy to be in such a remote, authentic & beautiful place (just check out the garden photos!) with so many nice people.
