Wonderful location and a magical view of the Alps as I opened the window in the morning. Quiet, peaceful, perfect accommodation - with a real Swiss feel. Good news for hikers: the Staubern cable car - which takes you to the Saxer Lücke formation - is only a 20 minute walk. I could absolutely stay here for longer. I will definitely return here!

A beautifully located hotel. The staff was all very helpful and extremely nice. Breakfast, as well as dinner, were delicious. The room was spacious and very comfortable. Very comfortable parking lot beneath the hotel with an elevator from there to all floors. Not a cheap hotel but relative to prices in Switzerland very high value for money.

The Hotel Frohe Aussicht hotel enjoys a quiet location in Schwende in the Alpstein Hiking Area. It offers free WiFi, fine regional cuisine, and a sauna.

- We booked a room with a balcony and it was very nice to be able to sit outside to relax and/or eat dinner after coming back from a long hike. - It was nice to have a screen for one of the windows to keep the bugs out during the night. - Breakfast was great because there were many options for food (hot and cold) and coffee/tea.

Esther is an excellent host who welcomes us warmly and introduces the apartment in details. Welcome drink and snacks are nice. Well-appointed and really spotless apartment with everything neatly set. Nice garden with a clean swimming pool. Greenly country view. Very quiet at night. We also visited the deer farm and my daughters liked it very much. Thank you Esther. Highly recommended. A really relaxing environment that provides all we need for our short stay.

Without doubt, the best place we have ever stayed at! The host is super nice, willing to change plans to accommodate us. The apartment was clean, well equipped, cozy and comfortable. Perfect for our big group. The place is very close to the highway, while being super quiet. As a bonus, the place is next to the barn with horses.

We stayed 2 nights beginning of June. If you like traditional places, you should visit Waldgasthaus Lehmen. You would be surrounded by natural forest with a view on Appenzell Alps. One of the most common sound during the day is various bells on cow necks. We were lucky to see how Appenzell farmers bring their cows to the mountains. The farmers have very beautiful cloths! On Saturday we saw a group of farmers, who came in their traditional dresses to Lehmen restaurant and had a few hours of singing and enjoying food. The restaurant is very good, if you like Swiss food. You must be hiking in that region, otherwise food might be too heavy. I had pork steak, pork schnitzel and beef steak with noodles and mushrooms. All dishes were very tasty. You have to try local beer! And Lehmen whisky! Highly recommended! Very nice! Service is impeccable, fast and attentive. All personnel is very friendly. Breakfast is wonderful! I would prefer, if it started at 7 instead of 8… Our room 17 was great, soft pillows, comfy beds, bath, simple but cozy design. The hotel has a playground for kids. Parking is huge.
