Great location and great people. We felt home staying there. Nice breakfast and hanging area. Dry room was really nice to have especially for daily snow activities.

Location was incredibly central on the main street. The room and bedding were exceptionally cozy and comfortable, The onsen was brilliant. I loved the hot tea dispenser so much! Hotel Senke is an amazing place for a low-frills, Japanese style lodging. But far and above my aforementioned rave reviews the most notable pleasure of our stay were the hotel proprietors. Miwa and her Mother are an absolute delight, and hands down the most gracious hosts. They are genuinely caring and always present to help guests. If I return again to Akakura Onsen, I wouldn't even consider other options, I loved my stay too much at Hotel Senke.

Located right in the middle of Akakura Onsen the Star hotel is easy to access and then close to a number of restaurants, shops and bars.
The free shuttle bus cruises past so it’s easy to jump in and get to Kanko. Onsen ski field is a 5 min walk along the street. Bar across the road and ski rental. Convenience store next door - in evenings.
The family that runs Star Hotel is super kind and friendly. They’ll go out of their way to help.
Breakfast was great, enough food.
The Hotel is a bit tired but I think that’s par for the course around the area. Yes it’s a bit pricy but it’s the middle of peak winter season and you’re in snow paradise so …!
The bathroom communal onsen is small - but easy to get to yourself. The water is soooo hot - but great for a soak.
Smells great - authentic onsen water.
The big family room is basic, but a traditional Japanese type stay - sleeping on futons on tatami. Plenty of extra blankets provided. Gas heaters in room are effective but you wouldn’t leave them on at night so it does cool down.
Kotatsu is amazing to slip under, keep warm and rehydrate !!
Discount lift tickets from reception are good but cash only. You can pay by credit card at the ski field ticket offices.

We arrived not knowing what to expect really, but Nathan and Akiko were so welcoming and really good fun. As was Nick, their handyman. The dining room / living area was a place you wanted to be in, so we ended up spending more time there chatting with Nathan, Akiko and Nick (as well as the other guests) rather than heading out into the town.
Akikos food was amazing and good value too, so there was no need to go anywhere else either.
Nathan made extra effort to take us to the resorts, and also picking us up if he was able to.
Nick and Akiko joined us on the slopes too on occasion.
Also, being someone a little over 6ft, the beds were plenty bong enough and were really comfy.
After travelling for 4 months, this was comfortably our favourite stay and wish we could have stayed longer.

Staying at White Tree Lodge felt like visiting family Hayden and Saki are great hosts who do everything to help and make your stay enjoyable, room and lodge facilities comfortable, great location close to ski lifts and other restaurants in the village, and the home cooked Japanese food in the white tree restaurant was delicious with a great variety on menu. I have been skiing in Japan for 15 years and white tree is a definite standout and would highly recommended
