Thankfully the staff came to pick me up in the evening because it's so dark and if you don't know the area, it can be hard to get there, so definitely keep communication with the place.
It was quite easy to find other spots once daylight came and all at walking distance. The valley is amazing and I imagine lively during summer and warmer times, for the autumn is quieter but still great nature and interesting sightseeing.

Really good location close to Oboke station. The owner was very friendly, spoke great English and gave good advice. Had a lot of knowledge about the area. I didn't join the kayaking tour but if I was to come back I would definitely do it. I like that you get your own room in the hostel, only the bathroom and showers are shared which is nice for privacy. Bath towels are included. I would definitely recommend staying at this hostel.
Sunriver Oboke is located in Miyoshi, 29 km from Tsurugi-san Chairlift and 7 km from Iya Hot Spring. Free WiFi is offered and free private parking is available on site.

This unique ryokan is perfectly situated to explore the Iya Valley from. Whether you're on foot or have a car. I travelled on foot, walking to the vine bridge which is only 4 minutes away. The bus stop it literally across the road from the entrance. Family run and very well managed. There are a few breathtakingly stunning onsens you can visit as a day visitor in the valley.

The hotel is a staircase away from the famous vine bridge. The host was very kind and helped us with what to do and what to eat. There is a nice common room with board games, manga and a retro nintendo console, as well as a nicely equipped kitchen. The two hot baths are also a plus to the stay.

It's a very beautiful house, all quite new. very cosy to sleep upstairs under the roof :) it smells fantastic wood and the surrounding is so beautiful. close to the river all you hear is nature.... it was one of our favourite stays. the owners are amazing, too. we were even allowed to join a cross fit session and the long exchanges we had about japanese culture were super interesting. our son was amazed to find nice children to play with :) we'd highly recommend :)

The hosts were very attentive, very kind, easy to communicate with. The home was a wonderful, historic, traditional 110 year old Japanese home. The location and atmosphere were perfect and great value!

We loved our stay at the star lodge. We were made to feel very welcome and our room was perfect, set out with futon beds on tatami mats. The communal areas are large and there is a lovely heated low table area where you can sit and warm up. We ate at the lodge and had the chef’s special set meal on the first night, it was delicious and just as good as any top restaurant we’ve eaten in. We had breakfast too and it was tasty and filling. There are public onsen on site, which were great. It was quiet, so we had them to ourselves. We even got to see the moon on our last night through the large telescope onsite.
There are plenty of walks around the lodge, some can be steep, but ok if you’re fit.
The road to the lodge is narrow and windy, so would recommend doing it in the daylight.

The location along the river, along the bus route to the gorges that we wanted to see, and proximity to a reasonable restaurant and food store were all positives

The staff and the facilities were amazing. The tents are luxurious and we could not have been better served by the people there, who looked after us as if we were family. Great place, can't recommend it enough.
