So green and beautiful and healing, like a magical hot spring treehouse tucked in a tiny mountain town. Exquisite food, soothing springs, lots of cozy nooks for lounging and resting all around the inn.

Unforgettable experience, this place is amazing. It was the first time for me and my wife in a Ryokan. There are various inside and outside Onsen, and also a private Onsen. The service is great and the food is wonderful. The employees were extremely kind and dedicated in our well-being.

Kurokawa onsen is extraordinary one of all onsens. Fumoto ryokan is located in the center of Kurokawa. Very nice staff with good English communication. Dinner was Japanese kiseki with horse sashimi, Aso beef tepanyaki, tempura, assorted vegetable and one glass of local sake. The meal was really delicious for me and my husband, my child meal was hamberg rice, curry, tonkutsu and it's also excellent. Private onsen was no need for reservation, there are a lot of rooms for private onsens. I didn't see any review about children so I was a little worry. But when I got there with my 9-year-old girl, they treated my child very well, all amenities for kid, kid yukata, kid meals and a puppy doll at her bed. They are definitely kid-friendly ryokan.

This ryokan is exceptional. From the decor to the facilities to the friendliness of the general staff we felt welcomed and relaxed throughout. We had planned to visit other onsen ryokan on our visit to Kurokawa but quickly realised that we didn’t need to - it was all right here. There are 6 private unique baths on top of the excellent rotenburo (men’s and women’s outdoor pools separate but alternate each day) and with our limited time in Kurokawa (one night only) we were able to make use of 4 of the private baths and both of the rotenburo (one on each of the days). A great feature was the no booking system for the private baths - it was first come first serve but there were lights that showed you which was occupied. Even better, there was a screen on the tv in your room which told you which were occupied so you could plan which one to go to before you headed down. There was also public indoor baths but we didn’t have time to utilise these. Our kids (ages 11 and 15) enjoy the table tennis and the massage chairs as well as the baths. The views over the river from our room were beautiful especially at night with the illuminations in the river downstream from the bridge easily visible. We really enjoyed the food though some of the selections were a bit too challenging for the kids. Surprisingly though they both enjoyed the horse-meat sashimi!

Great indoor and outdoor onsen options.
Two styles of dinner (Kaiseki and BBQ); both great.
