Our rooms are designed with traditional Japanese aesthetics, featuring tatami mat flooring throughout. For those who prefer a futon on tatami or a bed, we also offer Japanese-Western style rooms. The warm ambiance is further enhanced by local artists' paintings adorning the walls. This place was amazing! You stepped into a quiet, calm sanctuary. Room was very comfortable. The staff was super kind and helpful! A small but very intimate onsen helps you relax. Bed was comfortable. And the traditional japanese breakfast was amazing! I would come back again! And hopefully I shall! ありがとうございます

Just a 2-minute walk from Takayama Station, Oyado Koto No Yume offers Japanese-style rooms with a colourful touch. The hotel features hot-spring baths, a restaurant serving breakfast and free WiFi throughout the property. This ryokan is introduced in Michelin Green Guide Japan. Location was amazing- walking distance from the station and from the old town. The place was beautiful, and the rooms had everything. Futons were very comfy. The onsen was the best I tried so far (but I haven’t tried a lot). We did the private bath, and it was really nice. They also lend you yukatas to wear around the ryokan. And the staff were very friendly, hospitable and helpful!

Located just a 1-minute walk from popular Miyagawa Morning Market in the heart of Takayama, Sumiyoshi Ryokan offers homely Japanese-style accommodation in the historic townhouse building. Free WiFi is available at the lobby and guestrooms. This hotel was selected as one of the Top 25 B&Bs and Inns in Japan by TripAdvisor's Travelers' Choice Award 2015. What a sweet antique ryokan run by the loveliest people! We had here the best dinners in our whole trip!!! I cannot explain enough how delicious and exceptional the dinners were. Everyone is sweet and kind, and language doesn't feel like a barrier. We were welcomed with ceremonial tea and sweets. Location is perfect, right at the centre of everything, a 7 minute walk to the old city, 1 minute walk to the bridge with beautiful views, and there are plenty of eateries and cafes around. It was the only stay during our trip where we had shared bathrooms and toilet, but in the end we didn't mind it at all. The authentic experience of the onsen is brilliant, super relaxing. The place feels a bit like a live museum, or your Japanese grandma's house, so it's fun to look around. They also have a library of books to swap / leave. The owners helped us with finding things to do at Takayama. Honestly I couldn't recommend it enough, would definitely return!
