We had not been to Port Townsend in several years.

We had not been to Port Townsend in several years. When we returned it had changed dramatically. The town has lost its sense of quaintness, replaced by merrciless gouging across the board. Some hotel rooms on the weekend are now $400.00 a night and the Buffet offers Biscuts and gravy for...........$22.00. Parking has doubled to $20.00 a night. Outrageous. Many downtown store fronts are deserted and stores that remain offer cheeper trinkets to tourists. I'm sure I will not spend $18.00 for a cutsie bar of soap. Overall we felt abused. Not the once lovely charming location it was and has lost its luster.

There is lots to see and do in that area darling little shops and pubs and opportunities to learn about nature I thought it was fascinating that they had the whale bones and there's lots of gorgeous views in the area

Port Townsend is a delight - excellent restaurants, coffee shops, and a variety of interesting stores; wonderful historic architecture to enjoy as you walk around; a lot of festivals throughout the year creates additional interest (along with potentially some difficulties in finding accommodation). Favourite restaurants are Finistere and The Fountain Cafe - both best to book well ahead. The Farmers Market on Saturday mornings (spring through fall) is vibrant (20 minutes walk up the hill from the main water-front street) - there is a regular bus service.

I have visited Port Townsend several times and have always enjoyed my visits. I had a chance encounter with the Wooden Boat Festival about ten years ago and have been wanting to come back for a more intensive visit. There are so many beautifully restored boats, from small one person craft to eighty+ foot yachts, it is breathtaking. My longest career was in the automotive industry and I've always enjoyed car shows. This was like a Concours d'Elegance for boats. Many of the owners are justifiably proud of their boats and welcome friendly conversation. There are also many included sessions about boat design, building, maintenance issues, and sailing. The downtown area is very charming with some beautiful architecture, galleries, and many good places to eat. Whether for the festival or not, Port Townsend should be on your list during a visit to the area.

Port Townsend for the most part looks like a vacated city.

Port Townsend for the most part looks like a vacated city. Most of the building appear to be empty. There is some activity downtown, but be sure to get there early as most all business close between 7-9, this includes restaurants. There are a number of good eating venues, again, if you plan an early dinner. The harbor is very attractive, and had I stayed longer I would have visited the area more as it did look interesting and enticing. Getting around town is awkward, there are a number of one way streets. We had dinner at a restaurant/bar Silverwater Cafe. It has great ambiance. I found the wine list extensive and too much for a non wine connoisseur. The service was exceptionional, however, wine suggestions or special offerings would be helpful. The food was ok, not exceptional, the Chicken Alfredo was boring, with no embellishments, just very blond. The lamb shank was small, and just alright, either a poor quality wine was used in there preparation, or the wrong choice of wine, it overpower the dish. The fish and chips were, again, ok, but nothing that oouldnt be found at most restaurants. The wait for the food was exceptionally long. Had the server not been so pleasant; we would have left before having the meal. It was unfortunate that the server did not offer another appetizer or beverage to fill in the time before the food arrived. I would likely go back to this restaurant, but with lower expectations, and take a closer look at the wine list and menu offerings.

View was great - a lovely balcony overlooking the sea. Location to town was a nice (about fifteen minute) walk. Bike route right in front of hotel into town; Very close to ferry. Staff were friendly (albeit not particularly helpful if you asked for anything). Liked having the small fridge in room.

The architecture and history of the hotel intrigued me. It was like travelling in time and an experience unto itself. We had a lovely view of the Salish Sea. Got a good nights sleep.

Location - Right on the main shopping street on great location. The fact that it was a old hotel and the room was large. The bed was comfortable.
