I am very satisfied with my stay! The flats are located in a very good location. There are many different facilities (e.g. a very large swimming pool). The room I had was large, clean and very comfortable. I must also thank the owners and the staff who took care of everything perfectly. They helped me in every situation. Wonderfully designed hotel with a wonderful staff just 1 minute from the beautiful beach. The room feels luxurious and comfortable, with great decoration and wooden furniture. The restaurant and pool area are beautiful and relaxing. The yoga classes are a nice bonus and the food in the restaurant is delicious with most dishes served generously. The cocktails are recommended. The best part is the dedicated staff, both at reception, the restaurant, the security and the cleaning staff. Particular thanks go to Sharif, Mongola, Shumu and Frida, and to the wonderful cleaning team with their attention to details. A great place for celebrating a special occasion!

We stayed here for a few days after safari for our honeymoon, and it was the perfect location to relax. We stayed in a King Suite and it had an incredible view out to the ocean, and a perfect sea breeze to cool down in the evenings. The room was gorgeous, and everything about the hotels decor is beautiful. Food in the restaurant is delicious including breakfast, and the cooking class and reef walk were both really fun. Two pools to choose between, a beach bar, and directly on the beach. Couldn’t have asked for a more perfect stay!

Matemwe was nice - the beach part.

Matemwe was nice - the beach part. Sad to see the poverty behind the gates of the hotel. The tides were a bit different from what we have expected as the water would leave the beach at 9am and return around 5pm. If you did not make it to swim early in the morning, you missed it. We took a reef walk which was beautiful, saw a lot of see creatures, and that was very amazing experience. Also took a boat tour to see the sunset - it was worth the trip. Did not like how the locals would just stop on the beach and start shouting at you to buy smth. Also the part of the hotel beach is not segregated in any way, which does not give you a privacy enough. The food was amazing though - the hotel goes much beyond - and all day brekfast concept was amazing.

Matemwe is ideal for relaxing and spending quality time with friends and family. Matemwe is near Mnemba island 🏝️ for swimming with dolphins 🐬 . We rode bicycles 🚲 around the village and the place felt very safe. There are few alternative places for lunch or dinner. Not too far from stone town.

The snorkeling was a true adventure, with well-protected marine life and crystal-clear water. Spotting the dolphins was an unexpected bonus! Visiting the sea turtle rehabilitation center and feeding them was a special experience.

Matemwe beach was huge and totally uncrowded - some days we were lucky to see 10 - 20 people pass by! Loved the Massai beach hawkers - friendly and laid back happy to have their pictures taken - no hassle or relentless chasing - once told 'no' they respected our space. Recommend a day trip to Nungwi for a completely different vibe and fantastic sunset. Matemwe is somewhat isolated and if you want to get around you need to secure the number of a local taxi driver - always bargain hard beforehand. Most hotels organise trips/tours but at a premium.

It was a quieter beach which was nice which also meant not too many people hassling you to buy things. Those that did were respectful. Beach is nice but the sea depth is very shallow most of the day so swimming wasn't the easiest and there was a lot of seaweed when we were there.

It’s very quiet, very few non hotel restaurants, overpriced...

It’s very quiet, very few non hotel restaurants, overpriced food everywhere, can’t swim in the sea unless you don’t mind knee deep water. There’s no town, or town centre outside the beach hotels, so a long stay would be challenging if you want more than just lounging by the hotel pool.

This is a beautiful boutique style hotel. The staff is very friendly. The beach setting and the rooms are beautiful but the best is the food. We had half board and there were always delicious choices on the menu board. It's not the cheapest place but the food is fresh, nicely spiced, altogether the best food we have had during our stay in Tanzania. I would definitely recommend this hotel. Its also a good choice if want to be close to the dive schools. They provide free pick up from the hotel.

Beautiful location, great food, lovely staff. Overall everything was to a very high standard. The villa was amazing to stay in and the cold plunge pool was such a nice bonus to have to cool down in the very hot and humid weather. AC and fan in the bedroom made it very comfortable to sleep at night. The pool overlooking the beach was perfect to enjoy some relaxation time while staying cool under the shade. I will be staying here again when I return to Zanzibar.

The lodge has an amazing view, nice swimming pool, friendly staff and managers, a joint diving center and yoga opportunities every weekdays. The food was also beyond our expectations. We have taken the honeymoon offer and it was well worth it: snorkeling, 3 course dinners, couple massage, airport transfer, also we booked the oceanview suite and the it’s stunning. They also have free shuttle bus to the sister-hotel’s private beach.

By far the best accommodation we had in Zanzibar! Spacious and private rooms, situated in a gorgeous garden! Extremely quiet and peaceful. The staff is lovely and ready to help with any requests. The beach only visible on low tide but not a problem if you anticipate it.
