I would not recommend visiting on a Monday as most of the shops, cafes and bars were shut during the day time and also in the evening it was quite difficult to find somewhere to eat. Tainan is one of the most popular destinations in Taiwan for both locals and visitors. Hotels are more expensive than in nearby Kaohsiung, which is a little over an hour away by train, so it is possible to stay in one city and do a day trip to the other... there is much to see and do in both cities. A little research before travelling will help with planning your trip to both Tainan and Kaohsiung and enjoying the best of both worlds. For those interested in history the Chimei Museum in Tainan is a must do but be aware this place is really popular both with tourists and locals... well over 1.5 million visits each year. The Chimei Museum has both a restaurant and coffee shop. Ten Drum Cultural Center is located directly opposite the museum and is a bit of an adventure playground that has a 5-story high extreme slide and a 7-story high free fall ride. It was thoughtfully designed and had a nice bathroom and very comfortable bed. The location is picturesque and close to lots of food and drink options but nice and quiet at night. The host is exceptional - so kind and helpful. She gave us wonderful local recommendations and helped us with many things including calling a taxi for us and storing our luggage.
