Koh Lipe is a tropical gem with stunning beaches, turquoise waters and a laid-back atmosphere, perfect for snorkeling, diving, and relaxing. However, there is noticeable plastic pollution, some roads are in very poor condition with deep potholes and puddles, and trash can be seen along certain areas. Koh Lipe used to be an amazing quiet paradise, world class diving, authentic food. We had not been back in a few years and was shocked at the change. Now it is a lively place, drug cafes everywhere, food more for tourists, and the dive sites crowded with most of the coral dead. It is a shame that everything has developed without control. It is still a nice place to visit, but for a short stay, diving no longer worth the hassle and very expensive. Beautiful little island in the south of Thailand. Not the easiest to get to. Main Street is walking street with shops, restaurants, massage parlours etc. Highly recommend the sunset cruise. We stayed 5 nights and it was a perfect length of stay. I thought Lipe would be very unspoilt as it seemed a long trip to make from Krabi. But I was surprised to see how developed it was when we arrived. We were there in March and it was OK but people told us that earlier in the season it gets really busy. The architectural design is gorgeous, the sand pool villa has tall ceilings and is super spacious. The bed is huge directly facing the pool and sunrise beach.
