If Viseu was near the ocean I would've moved there inmediately. Lovely streets to wander around, parks and local shops and restaurants. Lovely architecture to admire and just love the ambience. Viseu is a gorgeous little city with rich historical tales, medieval buildings, cute cafes, and lush gardens. I really loved this city and became impressed with how clean and safe it felt, as a young woman. I really want to visit this city again. The city is so clean, the amenities are fantastic, the people are very friendly and relaxed. Everything you need is there and it has great history and wonderful parks and gardens. A gem of a city. The location is perfect for trips to places like Douro Valley and Serra de Estrela. Also a good location for cyclists who can access purpose built cycle routes on old the old railway line. Eating out is very affordable. Pay the two euro fee to go up to the museum above the cathedral it is probably the best attraction for two euros we have ever visited and the views down onto the square are lovely. Viseu is a charming, walkable, old city with a good balance...
Viseu is a charming, walkable, old city with a good balance of old charm and modern amenities. The cathedral area, for example, is within walking distance of a shopping mall, which is near the bus station. It seemed like there was a good cultural buzz as well, with several musical and film events taking place in the park and around town, indoors and out. The Casa Conselheiro Alfonso de Melo museum, right in city center, showcases---for free entry-- the writer's good-sized personal collection of Portuguese Post-Impressionist paintings, furniture, ceramic dish sets, and various other home objects d'arte. From there, a 15-minute walk through the narrow, cobbled streets of Old Town brings you to the cathedral and Nacional Museum Grāo Vasco, the gift shop of which offers a huge book selection, some in English and other languages. There are manors and gardens worth visiting outside the city as well, I understand, but they require some private transport.Guest review byBrigi L.Portugal

The swimming pools are also very good but the outdoor one is not heated :) Fitness centre is small but has a good amount of equipment. Nice hotel for a long weekend break. There is limited but very convenient parking for some cars. You can walk easily into the old town. The breakfast was excellent. Good English spoken by some staff. Everything is new and in good shape.
