Sintra is a magical place and the best way to view it is by walking. It is a shame that so many tuk-tuks and other ride share vehicles are allowed to park all around the already busy entrances to the historic sights. Hopefully future discussions about transportation in this UNESCO World Heritage site will solve this problem. Our group of six adults stayed for two nights at an historic Quinta and we were able to view the castle in the evening with special lighting. We were pleasantly surprised how good the weather was for our mid October visit, it was sunny and 23ºC during the day and very pleasant in the evening.Guest review byCarynCanada - 2.0

Having been here before, I know the beauty of this place, but because of the high parking rates, not being able to reach most of the castles/palaces by car(closed roads), paying eur 13,50 per day for a bus fare, the extreme business (overcrowded) and the high prices for food and drinks, overshadowed the beauty this place had offered me in the past. It is a lovely area to visit and there is a good choice of places to eat. Using the train to get there from the airport is easy and cheap. Two days was sufficient time for me to do the exploring that I had planned to do. Sintra gets very busy during the day but it has compensations, such as great restaurants, and a number of sights to be seen. I recommend visiting. Get up early to avoid the crowds.Guest review byPullynAustralia - 10

We loved Sintra! My husband was to move there. Terrific gardens at all the major attractions. There are lots of tourists, especially at Penna Palace, so it’s a busy place. Late afternoon, the tour buses leave and it’s not as crowded. We uber end everywhere and Ubers cost less than in the states. The mountains are steep but some people (younger than us) were walking them, we felt safe, everyone friendly, most spoke English and we had some great dinners, we want to go back. Sintra is a magical location in the mountains, surrounded by natural beauty and several ancient palaces that are stunning. The area is a 45 minute train ride from Lisbon, and can be a nice day trip, but there's so much to see that you really need 2-3 days there.
