We were only staying in Caniço, we went there to visit Madeira and really enjoyed it. It's green and beautiful, people are very nice and food is excellent. All of Madeira island is mountainous therefore it would be advisable to rent a car on the island to get around. There was a very good bakery and cafe in the village and a small grocery for essentials. Small town so little nightlife.
Small town so little nightlife. Good bus links into Funchal and down to Canico de Baixo. Good restaurants, especially La Terresa. Two supermarkets and many cafes. Prices lower than in Funchal. Quinta Splendida gardens open to non residents for 4 euros. Lovely place to sit and relax. Not a tourist hotspot so locals go about their daily life. If coming back to Madeira, surely will come back to this hotel! On breakfast you could have whatever you desire. Mixed eggs, fresh fruits, salats, sweet pastry, pancakes, musli and yoghurt - just love it here! It was possible to sit outside but also inside in the restaurant. The room was very modern and nice. I really appreciate the bin divided in three parts - separation of plastic, paper and general waste. The beds were comfy.
