It a lovely town have a chilled vibe. It is is easy to walk and finding parking wasn't too bad either. It's a good place to base yourself if you have a car as there are many good attractions not far by car. There are loads of good restaurants. There are a few scenic things to see such as the bridge, the water clock, some murals and a lovely boardwalk along the river. Don't miss the science centre (Centro Ciência Viva). They have a lovely river beach and awesome municipal pool. I have also attended the medieval market and reenactment of a historical battle (recriação histórica do recontro de Valdevez) at the Castle (Paço de Giela) - that was pretty cool. Arcos de Valdevez is a very clean and well-kept town — a true pleasure to visit. The atmosphere is calm and welcoming, with charming streets and beautiful surroundings. Not all restaurants accept credit cards, but ATMs are available and easy to find. A lovely place for a relaxed stroll, good food, and exploring the local culture. We were unimpressed with & frustrated with No offer to help elderly with luggage, across rough surfaces from the parking area . No resolution for overly warm room, & malfunctioning safe. Issues with refrigerator not cooling, nonpaved surfaces & uneven granite pavers making luggage transfer difficult . We have visited more around Arcos de Valdevez than the city itself. Easy to access ATMs and cafes and restaurants. Had lunch in the city, a very good restaurant at Rua Dr. Vaz Guedes, I don't remember the name, I believe was O Lagar. It is a nice small town with a lovely centre and quite some restaurants to choose from. From Arcos it is easy to explore the surroundings. We went to Sistela (passadiços, which were beautiful) and Monção (worth a visit). And visited Quinta do Santiago where they make great Vinhos Verdes and Alvarinho. Other cities nearby are also very nice, but we already knew them (Ponte de Barca, Ponte de Lima, Viana, etc). And of course Peneda-Geres, which is beautiful. Everything within walking distance. Restaurants and Cafes throughout the city with outdoor seatings. Walking the paths along the river. Fresh air and friendly and safe environment! The whole location was very clean and the staff (Rosa) was very friendly and helpful. The location is also great - nice for walking around, visiting the Nationalpark Peneda-Geres and enjoying the nature (and of course the pool ;)) Everything was perfect, but it would be great if there was an eating table in the upper area near the Barbecue. A perfetc example of a great combination of old and new, past and future. Wonderfull decoration, very good swiming pool. The garden is very weel designed, everything is five stars. The staff is very nice and speak so many languages, amazing.
