Papeete itself is very bland and the market is over-rated (in my opinion). I wished I had planned properly and spent few nights at Moorea, but I didn't know what to expect. Rookie mistake 🫣 Lessons learnt. Despite mixed advice from the locals, I felt safe walking at night, which is a positive outlook for the Island 🙏 As many reviewers have mentioned, Papeete is only a good stopover to the other islands 🏝 😀 The 2 highlights of my stay was the day trip to Moorea, doing the safari excursions and the cultural night at the InterContinental Hotel.Guest review byLeeAustralia - 10.0

Over-all it was great. We spent 7 days on Tahiti, plus a half-day excursion on Moorea. 5 days on Tahiti would probably be enough. Next time we will visit a couple of others islands for a few days. Good food and shopping in Papeete.Guest review byMurphyUnited States - 6.0

Spending a day or two there would have been enough, there was obvious poverty, with multiple homeless people. Not what I expected at all. I hired a car to visit the sites, but when I was driving around, everything looked closed, or uninviting. As a solo tourist, this wasn't the best place to visit. The people are what make it so good. Very polite people who appear to be honest and kind. The shopping mall across the road from the Hilton was a wonderful place with a food hall and a good supermarket. We enjoyed a day trip to Moorea and a taxi trip around that island. Also the 5-hour Tahiti group trip and the boat trip. I did not do any snorkelling as I do not swim and I thought perhaps an activity in knee-high water could have been included in the boat trip. Good shops and a huge market, though all very expensive. Their own hand-made pareos and other garments are beautiful. There is a lovely garden (Paofae) along the sea front which starts just beyond the marina. From here we watched the sunset which was stunning. There are beaches around the island, both white and black sand, but not in Papeete itself. There are buses but we didn't use them as we had the private tour.Guest review byJanet - 8.0

It was such a beautiful place. The open markets were exceptional in that they offered fresh produce and a variety of local arts and crafts. The artisans were truly gifted using unique techniques to highlight everyday items grown/foraged in the surrounding environment. I definitely plan to go back and soak up the island atmosphere!! And a shout out to a little establishment we ate at: Jojo's Pizza was the BOMB! We ate there the last evening before we left; My only complaint was that we didn't find this place sooner!Guest review byAnonymous

She even invited me on a boat trip! The apartment was excellent, very comfortable, very clean, well equipped and had everything I needed for my stay. The internet worked wonderfully. Some people wrote in past reviews that the hill was really steep. I did not find this at all. All I can say is that those people must have been really unfit! I would definitely stay here again. We stayed in the new extension and although basic it is exceptionally clean and comfortable. The location is ideal with walking access to central Papette, the marina and Champion supermarket. Their airport shuttle is a great service that is very well organised. The new restaurant/bar has a great atmosphere. Also enjoyed the great food there.
